356: Emperor Constantius II, Rome's second Christian emperor, issues a decree closing all pagan temples in the Roman Empire. An example of his Christian morality: Nineteen years before, upon becoming Emperor, Constantius had immediately ordered the murders of his father-in-law, an uncle, and several cousins, consolidating his hold on power.
