135: Roman armies under Emperor Hadrian defeat Jewish forces at Bethar, a small fortress town, after a three-year campaign. This gives rise to an early Jewish "Holocaust" story, duly recorded in the Talmud, which claims that the Romans killed four billion Jews in Bethar, and that the blood of the slain Jews flowed in a river 40 miles long to the sea, so deep that it reached the nostrils of the horses in its path.
