Former President Donald Trump was last seen looking like a poor man’s version of Vincent Van Gogh with blood dripping from his ear; he was nearly shot by an assassin’s bullet. Good! Let’s load up on guns and if there has to be a blood bath let’s have it right now. Of course all the pundits will decry the violence but right now violence is apple pie; and soon all the politicians will start pointing fingers at one another but none of them will ever look in a mirror to see their own image of evil. The truth is that the grazing (the current term of art) of a presidential candidate is only just deserts; it is not the disease itself but the symptom and manifestation of the disease, of a sick and superficial society, greedy, corrupt, hooked on the images from their phones, hooked on meretricious values, and neck deep in unalloyed evil. For our so-called leader we now have a race between two senile nonentities, one a mental patient, the other a buffoon, and they seek to steer the ship of state that has long since lost its way and is about to sink to the bottom of the ocean where it shall never again be found. No one should mourn it, and anything, any chaos, any blood, any confusion which hastens its demise should be applauded without reserve. The game of life always has been and always will be war without end but any people who play it so poorly, who play it so blindly surely deserves to perish. And this war is not just a shot away, it’s already on the doorstep, it’s not on the way, but a present reality. So let the critics have their say as they say “this is not who we are”; but sure it is, this is exactly who we are, or they are, and this entire unedifying spectacle is nothing less what they so richly deserve. The man who was shot was last seen looking like an idiot with a grimace and a raised fist that those who idolize him will see as the apotheosis of defiance. But it is not. It is the impotent gesture of the impotent, as the once great nation goes down to a just and bloody defeat. And now that America is in the final agony of its self-inflicted death throes it is a truth that is universally recognized that it needed a killing and has needed it long since. And the fact that it is now coming down fast can only be a matter of beautiful wonder.
