TODAY IN HISTORY
1870: Hilaire Belloc, French-British writer and historian, is born in La Celle-Saint-Cloud, France. Belloc opposed both capitalism and Communism, and was an advocate of Distributism, a social system based on mediaeval European norms which proposed a wide distribution of wealth and productive assets throughout all levels of the nation. He called for the dissolution of Parliament and its replacement with committees of representatives for the various sectors of society, an idea that was also popular among Fascists.
