Tom Hunt hits out at racist stickers found in Ipswich

PUBLISHED: 13:46 04 February 2020 | UPDATED: 17:17 04 February 2020

Ipswich MP Tom Hunt has hit out at racist stickers which appeared in the town over the weekend.

Ipswich Borough Council have spent several days removing the stickers, which bear white supremacist messages, from locations across the town.

Mr Hunt said that it was disappointing that some people were seeking to sow division in the town.

Mr Hunt said: "Understandably these stickers have caused significant upset for many of my constituents. I am very sorry that often young children have come across these stickers.

"Having looked into the matter I do have significant concerns about some of the messages on these stickers. There is something very sinister about the sticker campaign and it does seem to have happened in other places across the country.

"These stickers seem intent on defining people based on the colour of their skin and in doing so are looking to sow division.

"The reality is that as a Town we are diverse and by and large we all live together harmoniously and my view is that we benefit from being a diverse Town. It's very important we don't let those who want to sow this kind of division achieve any of their objectives."

Police investigations into the stickers are continuing.

In the past day many members of the public have been in touch with ISCRE asking for a community-led anti-racism solidarity initiative in the town in light of the stickers.

The group said that they were looking into this possibility and hoped to organise something soon.
"Sinister" to say it's ok to be White? What will they do if they catch the sticker's distributor? Burn at the stake?

White supremacist stickers spotted on campus
In Campus News, News, Top Stories

Jessica Benda February 3, 2020

As Cal State Fullerton grapples with the aftermath of racially charged incidents from last semester, stickers advertising a white supremacy group appeared on campus last week.

“It matches the environment that we’ve seen on campus already. If anything, this is a symptom of the problem we’ve been dealing with,” said Joshua Fatahi, a third-year political science major and president of the club Students for Justice in Palestine.

Fatahi saw two white supremacy stickers from the organization Patriot Front on campus last October. Earlier this week, Fatahi saw a sticker off-campus in Fullerton. On Thursday, he saw one of the stickers on a lamppost where the campus’ political groups were tabling.

Patriot Front is a white nationalist hate group that split from Vanguard America, one of the hate groups responsible for the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, according to Southern Poverty Law Center.

It was there that white supremacist and rally attendee James Alex Fields Jr., drove his car into a crowd of peaceful protestors, killing anti-racist protestor Heather Heyer and injuring more than 30 others. Fields pleaded guilty to 29 hate crime charges and was given two life sentences.

CSUF’s Students for Quality Education urged the community to be alert and shared images of the stickers on their Instagram, which displayed phrases like “Revolution is Tradition,” and “Keep America American.”

“When you look at a Patriot Front sticker, it says revolution and has red, white and blue, so when you see that you think, ‘Oh this is playing towards the American revolution.’ But, really, this is more of reactionary politics. It’s really up to us to educate ourselves more on what this language means and how powerful it can be in terms of supporting white supremacy,” said a representative for Students for Quality Education, who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

This traditional imagery is a way for organizations like this to draw people in and recruit them, which is why education about these groups is critical, Fatahi said.

“A lot of people don’t get into these orgs just like, ‘Yeah I’m okay with being called a Nazi. Yeah, I’m okay with being called a white supremacist,’ They came to them because their PR is good and their imagery is good, so they brand themselves as being patriotic and being old American values. Educational work on these organizations can drastically help lower the entry into them,” Fatahi said.

Capt. Scot Willey of the University Police said that this is not the first time stickers advertising white supremacist groups have been seen on campus. Instances of stickers promoting different groups have only occurred roughly once a year over the past few years.

Willey said that while the stickers weren’t a concern regarding the physical safety of students, they spark fear within cultural groups.

“I’m concerned that there’s somebody that feels like it’s okay to walk around and plaster our campus with these kinds of stickers,” Willey said. “We’re here to support each other no matter what race or creed or culture. We’re all Titans and we all need to look out for each other and just be aware that these kinds of things happen and not be blind to that fact.”

Willey said that the last time stickers appeared, they were also posted at Fullerton College. He encouraged people to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity, especially in the early morning.

Alexandro Gradilla, Academic Senate vice chair and associate professor of Chicana and Chicano Studies, said that white supremacy is something seen often; it just usually is not named.

“We shouldn’t be surprised by it. If we’re surprised by it, we’re in trouble, because what that means is we’re assuming that white supremacy is an aberration as opposed to something embedded in a lot of our social structures or our institutions on a daily basis,” Gradilla said.

This is not the first instance of hate reported recently. Last October, fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa posted the N-word to their social media, which spurred a town hall by the Black Student Union to express the racism that black students have faced on campus. Less than a month later, a hate incident occurred in housing involving two post-it notes with language racial in nature.

“There isn’t going to be a 20-30 minute online tutorial like the university tends to rely on. This is going to be something where people have to authentically and genuinely speak with each other and do the political work of anti-racism. We’re talking about traditional anti-racist work that needs to happen. People need to talk to each other, people need to be aware, people need to read,” Gradilla said.

Last November, students voiced their support for Assembly Bill 1460, which would require Cal State Universities to mandate one three-unit course of ethnic studies as a graduation requirement. The fate of the bill is still undecided.

On Friday, Harry Le Grande, vice president for Student Affairs, sent out an email addressing the stickers that said, “the vandalism was from an off campus white supremacist hate group.”

“As Titans, we do not tolerate these kinds of hateful acts in our campus community. Instead, we value equity and inclusion and strive to create a welcoming environment for all. Hate has no place on our campus and we ask that you stand in solidarity as one Titan Family against exclusion and intolerance,” Le Grande said.

Staff received a nearly identical email from David Forgues, vice president of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion. Both emails thanked the staff members who reported the stickers and University Police and Facilities Management, but did not mention student efforts.

Fatahi criticized the email for a lack of recognition for the students who took action and their part in the process.

“The email essentially reads like a pat on the back. Admin patting themselves on the back and then not really like doing anything — no further steps or actions or game plan for the future,” Fatahi said.

He suggested that administration bring in experts on how to combat these types of groups and bring speakers who know how to handle these types of situations to CSUF.

Gradilla said that the current diversity workshops on campus lack effectiveness because it’s not addressing anti-racism.

“It’s maddening as somebody who is a race/ethnicity scholar to see there’s a big raging fire, and you have people making snow cones in the corner,” Gradilla said. “It looks like we’re addressing it, but in many ways, we’re either painting it over or brushing it under the rug, but we’re not fundamentally addressing it.”

The increasing issue extends beyond the borders of CSUF. According to a 2018 report by the Orange County Human Relations Commission, hate incidents in 2017 to 2018 in Orange County increased by 37% and hate crimes by 12%.

Fatahi emphasized the need to bring the ideology and meanings of groups, like Patriot Front, to light, as well as the need for a follow-up response for the situation.

“We can’t trip over ourselves worrying about flyers or stickers,” Fatahi said. “Those aren’t the roots — those are the petals on the flowers of this problem. We need to dig up this plant, the roots, or else it will keep growing back.”
Yes, a few stickers are a "big raging fire" and according to the Chicano supremacist, something needs to be done about it. Well Mr. Gradilla, if there's a fire in your head, pour some cold water on it.

Nazi Propaganda Distributed at Reykjavík School

Larissa Kyzer
February 1, 2020

Flyers for the Norðurvígi neo-Nazi group have twice been found hung up on the grounds of the Menntaskóli við Sund (MS) junior college on the east side of Reykjavík, Mbl.is reports.

A concerned parent notified Mbl.is about two flyers that had been found taped to the side of a shipping container on the school grounds on Friday. The flyers were taken down but the very next day, another one was found taped up on the same shipping container, which the school uses as a storage shed.

“Did you know,” read the flyers, “that it is illegal to doubt the Holocaust in 23 countries?” It goes on to give examples of people it says have been jailed for “asking questions” and holding “different ideas and opinions.”

“I’m appalled about this,” said MS principal Már Vilhjálmsson, who hadn’t known about their presence on the school campus until he was contacted by a journalist about the incidents. Már said that the flyers would be removed and that school officials would be vigilant about removing any that might be posted in the future. He continued by saying it wasn’t a problem the school has had before – they’d had issues with graffiti, but never Nazi propaganda.

“This reflects in some ways society today,” Már continued, “where fanaticism is increasing more and more.”

This isn’t the first time that Norðurvígi has distributed its Nazi propaganda on school campuses. Last year, neo-Nazi flyers were found on the University of Iceland campus. A few members of the group made an appearance in Lækjartorg square in downtown Reykjavík, where they handed out flyers and waved flags, actions that spurred an anti-Nazi demonstration in the square in September of last year.
Pointing out that questioning the short time some Jews spent in camps to keep Europe safe from them can land one in jail in 23 countries is...."Nazi" propaganda? And "appalling?" Some people's values really are skewed towards that of being jailers in the global gulag that some Jews wish to confine us in. Or in this case, being the Commissar (calls himself a "principal"--what a laugh.)

White Supremacist Fliers Encroach on Wenatchee Lawns Again

Posted By: Kyle Lamb February 7, 2020

White supremacist literature titled “No White Guilt” is again popping up around Wenatchee.

The fliers are being found in plastic bags with a small rock inside, presumably tossed onto lawns from a car.

Wenatchee Police Captain Brain Chance stated that such an action is not a crime and probably doesn’t even rise to the level of littering. However, he does have a suggestion to the public if you are receiving the literature in question and are offended by it, or don’t want to continue to receive it.

“They certainly can call and report to us to let us know where they live, and that they’ve been receiving the literature as well.” Chance said, “The difficulty in that, and what I would ask of citizens to understand is that we don’t, and have never had to my knowledge, any suspect information as to who individually, or as an organization, is passing out the literature.”

Police received three calls referencing the literature in the area of Westwood Street. Similar literature has been covertly distributed around the Wenatchee Valley College area in recent years.
Oooh, "covertly distributed." Interesting use of Secret Squirrel language when referring to free speech activities in a news article.

Racist, anti-Semitic stickers removed from Iowa State campus, again

Iowa State University officials over the weekend removed from numerous campus locations stickers with Nazi imagery and messaging that came less than a week after International Holocaust Remembrance Day and following a fall semester plagued by racially fueled incidents and outrage.

In a post on the university’s campus climate webpage, officials said the “hateful, racist images are abhorrent,” and reiterated Iowa State “condemns all forms of racism, white supremacy, anti-Semitism and bigotry.”

The stickers were removed according to ISU policy, as in the fall when campus administrators in Ames responded to numerous acts of racism on campus — including racially motivated threats, racist posters and stickers, and anti-Semitic vandalism in the form of swastikas etched on residence hall doors.

A Students Against Racism group in October submitted a list of demands to the campus administration urging it take a zero tolerance stance against racism and anti-Semitism and pursue additional action, such as expelling students involved in the racist incidents and shutting down student groups they accuse of racism. ISU President Wendy Wintersteen and her administrative team responded to each of those demands — although not always according to the student requests.

To the demand that administrators shut down a “Students for Trump” club accused of attaching neo-Nazi slogans to their political writings, for example, the administration responded, “There is no recognized student organization with the name: Students for Trump.”

“However, the university does allow students to form organizations based on common political ideologies without regard to the candidates or policies they support, provided they follow the Student Organization Recognition policy,” according to the ISU response. “The university does not know who was responsible for the recent chalking activity.”

Wintersteen did not issue a formal statement or campus message in response to the weekend’s vandalism. Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, however, did Tuesday.

“We condemn this offensive display of bigotry, white supremacy and anti-Semitism,” CAIR National Communications Coordinator Ayan Ajeen said in a statement. “The university’s policy allows students, organizations and the general public to use bulletin boards without approval for posting information related to their activities, but if this policy is leading to racist materials being posted, then it must be reevaluated.”

Iowa State is facing pressure from the other side, as well. A national Speech First organization recently sued Iowa State for its response to the concerned students’ demands and for its campus rules and policies — which it characterized as “unconstitutional.”

ISU and its officials, according to the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, have created rules “designed to restrain, deter, suppress and punish speech concerning political and social issues of public concern.”

Police are investigating after stickers bearing racist slogans were put up on telecoms boxes in St Albans.

The stickers were discovered in Oakwood Drive and reported to police at 3.42pm on Friday (January 31).

Most of the stickers were able to be removed, but those that would not come off had their wording erased with a permanent marker instead.

Police received a further call today to reports that more offensive stickers had been put up on telecoms boxes in the same road.

The second batch of stickers have now been removed, and police are continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information should call the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 41/9376/19.

More Than 100 Masked White Nationalists Marched Through D.C. On Saturday

Masked members of a white nationalist group chanted slogans like “Reclaim America” as they marched from Arlington National Cemetery to the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, escorted by local police.

There were no arrests, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. “Our presence at any demonstration is not an endorsement of a particular group,” says D.C. police spokesperson Dustin Sternbeck. “We are there to ensure the safety of the public.”

The group, Patriot Front, is an offshoot of Vanguard America, which marched in the fatal Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville in 2017. James Alex Fields, who was convicted of killing counterprotester Heather Heyer that day while driving into a crowd of demonstrators, was photographed marching with with Vanguard America beforehand. (The group denies ties to Fields.) Patriot Front, which was founded shortly after Unite the Right, calls for “American Fascism.” According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Patriot Front “was one of a number of hate groups that sought to recast itself as mainstream, patriotic Americans by dressing up their propaganda and rhetoric in Americana.”

A livestream of Saturday’s Patriot Front demonstration from independent journalist Ford Fischer shows members of the group wearing identical navy jackets, khakis, and white face masks as they march in formation with a flag that mixes the U.S. stripes with an Italian fascist symbol. The group marched from Arlington through the National Mall to the U.S. Capitol and ultimately, to the H Street Walmart’s parking garage, where they loaded into white vans and left. They were surrounded by MPD officers on bike and on foot, who kept them separated throughout from a small group of visible counter protesters. (Police appeared to outnumber both members of Patriot Front and the counter demonstrators.) Some onlookers could be seen on video taunting and booing the Patriot Front demonstrators.

When the group arrived at the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, police closed off the area and prevented media and counter demonstrators from joining them, according to Fischer and independent journalist Zach D. Roberts. “For about 10 minutes, the entirety of the lawn in front of Capitol Hill was shut off from everyone, save a Southern Poverty Law Center designated hate group,” reported Roberts on Visu.News.

“We organized the march to symbolically reclaim our nation’s capital from the Jews, Marxists, & anti-white enemies in government who want to see white Americans erased,” Patriot Front leader ‎Thomas Rousseau, who is based in Texas, told WUSA 9’s Mike Valerio. “We will be back in D.C. eventually but not for the foreseeable future.”

According to Sternbeck, MPD was “aware of the group coming here based on open-source information.” Unlike other recent rallies featuring extremists, this one was not promoted publicly by the group beforehand. Generally, white supremacists who demonstrate in the District with advanced notice are outnumbered by counter protesters. MPD’s tactic is to try to keep the two groups apart from one another to avoid violence.

However, attempts to keep extremists apart from the general populace have often been met with criticism. When Metro provided special accomodation for white nationalists during the Unite the Right II rally in D.C. in August 2018, some elected officials and the transit agency’s union condemned the decision.

Martin Austermuhle contributed reporting to this story.
Marches and demonstrations in hostile territory while wearing masks isn't going to generate much goodwill with serious and responsible Whites who wish to act to put our people back on the upward path. Not recommended.

White activism, 2019 redux by the ADL in the news

excerpt:
White supremacist propaganda distribution rose by more than 300% in Massachusetts last year, and the state saw the fourth-highest level of that kind of activity of any state in the country, according to new data released Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League.

ADL said it received reports of 2,713 cases of white supremacist literature distribution across the country in 2019 — more than double the 1,214 cases reported in 2018.

"white supremacists are attempting to normalize their messages of bigotry and to bolster recruitment, all while hiding behind the cloak of anonymity, never having to face the consequences of their hate and intolerance."
Consequences? Like what, smear campaigns in the Jewed press, harassment of employers in order to get employees fired, death threats, police interrogations, and the like? Comments available here too.

Though we're not to be lumped in with those groups specifically mentioned in the various articles, National Alliance activity was not mentioned.

Activists hold anti-hate forum after white nationalists vandalize church
Posted on February 10, 2020

Community advocates held an anti-hate forum at a southern Brooklyn church on Thursday evening, hours after a pastor discovered stickers baring the name of white-nationalist group stuck to the house of worship.

The pastor of Fourth Avenue Presbyterian Church between Senator and 68th streets said he discovered more than 20 stickers advertising the white-power group plastered across the church’s gate, a nearby bench, and around the street on the morning of Feb. 6.

“Though there was an attempt made to intimidate us, we know we’re not alone in our beliefs,” said Pastor David Aja-Sigmon, who said he believed the groups members targeted the church after hearing about the forum. “One of our guiding principles as a church is the scriptural charge ‘to be a house of prayer for all nations’ (Isaiah 56.7), so of course we would feel called to host a community forum on countering hate.”

The Texas-based nationalist group first reared its ugly head in Brooklyn in early January, when members posted recruitment flyers across Bay Ridge and hung a banner that read, “Protect American labor” on the Belt Parkway’s 80th Street pedestrian overpass. Residents responded by holding a 300-person rally on Jan. 6, where they denounced the group and expressed support for the borough’s immigrant communities.

After the rally, the white nationalist group laid low until Feb. 7, the day of the community forum.

“I do know that these groups operate in waves,” said Mallory McMahon, the co-founder of Fight Back Bay Ridge, a progressive group that organized the rally and the anti-hate forum. “They really care about preserving their anonymity.”

McMahon added that stickers were most likely posted by local members of the nationalist group rather than recruiters, since the perpetrators knew about the church’s event.

“The fact that they knew to target the church before the event indicates that they might be local,” she said. “It seems like they got wind of our event and wanted to intimidate people.”

Despite the threatening posters, more than 100 people attended the anti-hate forum on Thursday night, where the executive director of an anti-fascist group called One People’s Project spoke about ways of combatting racist hatred.

“You cannot ignore this or expect somebody else to fight this for you,” said Daryle Lamont Jenkins. “It’s not always going to be a physical manifestation [of violence], but we still have to get involved. We see it on Facebook and Twitter. We have to call it out.”

Jenkins and other local leaders advised attendees to monitor their children’s online presence and to publicly denounce signs for the hate group whenever they appear.

“If you see something, you have to say something,” McMahon said.

The police department is aware of the group’s recruitment signage and is investigating the matter, according to spokeswoman Det. Sophia Mason.
Patriot Front members caught putting stickers on private property could be prosecuted. Attaching stickers to private property is not in accordance with National Alliance policy and is the sort of trouble that is easily avoided. Stickers can be distributed in other effective ways.

White activism at Whitby, ON in the news

Post by Jim Mathias » Mon Feb 17, 2020 8:05 pm

https://globalnews.ca/news/6517333/town ... rs-whitby/
Town officials and hate crime experts are condemning a number of anti-immigrant posters that have been spotted around Whitby, especially in the community of Brooklin.

“All racism is dangerous rubbish,” said Mayor Don Mitchell.

“This is not the Whitby I live in and certainly doesn’t reflect the values of our town.”

A resident who lives near Cochrane Street says they were walking in the area Wednesday when they made the troubling discovery of the posters, plastered to several mailboxes.

The poster says “the great replacement of European Canadians is not a conspiracy theory, it is an undeniable fact.”

It then goes on to list statistics alleged to be from Statistics Canada, showing a supposed decline in Canada’s white population.
Story continues below advertisement

“We strongly condemn any attempt to mislead and divide Canadians,” Statistics Canada said in a statement.

“We collect data and provide information and insights that contribute to the strength of our people, our communities and our country. We trust Canadians will use this data responsibly.”

The posters have since been removed, for the most part. However, the town is struggling with getting all of the material off, as those responsible glued the posters onto the mailboxes.

Durham police are investigating the incidents. They say the posters are similar to those posted on a separate occasion in Whitby last October.

“As of today, we were also told about three more incidents where the same posters were located in the Brooklin area at a school, so we have officers that are investigating,” said Const. George Tudos.
“Obviously we take these very serious[ly].”

Dr. Barbara Perry with Ontario Tech’s centre on hate, bias and extremism says the posters could have come from a number of anti-immigrant groups.
“They could be coming from more extreme groups, like the Soldiers of Odin, all of which [have] a presence in the area,” she said.

Perry says far right groups such as the Soldiers of Odin are “very fearful of a loss of privilege.”

That kind of fear, the professor says, is what was responsible for some horrible incidents, like the mass killings in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Story continues below advertisement

It appears expressions of hate are becoming a more common sight in Whitby. Just a couple of kilometers from the posters, pieces of wood with anti-Semitic messages were found in a local park.

Perry says recent incidents are a concerning reflection of increased racism in the region.

“There is both cultural anxiety and economic anxiety in the region now. That makes it ripe for recruitment by these sorts of groups,” she said.

The professor says municipalities and community members can make progress on the issue by continuing to publicly address any incidents that happen.
Rather than "fearing a loss of privilege," perhaps Canadian Whites are more interested in stopping this slow-motion genocide from occurring. But I won't try to persuade someone who makes a living from the projection of "hate, bias, and extremism" that she's wrong. That wouldn't pay her for her time and trouble-making.
