Vietnam War Vet?

Post by Wade Hampton III » Sun Oct 28, 2018 6:40 pm

Tom Martin asks...

A person I regularly see at a business claims he was a SF Ranger who was
attached to the 1st Cav, and served in Colombia and Vietnam, he is only
62 years old, is that possible?

Tom Martin, Answered Tue · former Retired Senior Non Commissioned Officer
at U.S. Army and Louis E. Walker, former Surgeon at U.S. Army (1989-2014):

wtf?

It’s 2018. 62 years ago, means he was born in 1956, after October 23,
today’s date. The Vietnam War ended Apr 30, 1975. That would make him a
17 or 18 years old in the end of the Vietnam War, who somehow went to
Special Forces and Ranger School before that and got into Vietnam while
still 18?

But now it gets more confusing....

The 1st Cav was out of Vietnam late summer, 1972, before October 23. Based
on the other information, he would have been 15 years old to have served
with the 1st Cav in Vietnam, as an attached ‘special forces ranger’ before
it left Vietnam. You may have gotten some information wrong, and that is
very possible, but if it’s correct then you have the most amazing Vietnam
war story anyone has ever heard of, a special forces ranger cavalry man
who completed basic, his MOS School, got a Ranger Tab, got selected for SF,
completed SF, and got into Vietnam in time to fight with the 1st Cav,
before they got out of Vietnam, when he was 15.

So, in this incredible historic figure, if you’ve got your info straight,
he some how got his butt enlisted or drafted maybe at 11 or 12 years old
and no one caught it, and then he became a special forces ranger cavalry
man.

There should be songs sung about this man.

BTW: In the Vietnam War, the First Cavalry Division suffered more casualties
than any other army division: 5,444 men killed in action and 26,592 wounded
in action.-Wiki

I’d be cautious before calling the man out, you might have gotten some
information wrong. He might tell you that in addition to being a special
forces ranger cavalryman, he was also a Navy Ninja Seal commando Paratrooper
Marine.

Someone did once sing a song, and some of the words go like this:
I'm a Joker, I'm a smoker, I'm a midnight toker...
This might work for you as it seems to fit.

This fellow's phony valor story sounds much more exaggerated than even the Jew U.S. Senator's.
