Re: News From Southern Africa

Limpopo - An 83-year-old woman has died after she was beaten and raped in the Sereni village outside Makhado at the weekend, Limpopo police said on Monday.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the woman was attacked in the early hours of Saturday.
“It is alleged that the pensioner was asleep when two suspects, who (had) covered their faces with balaclavas, forced (their way) into her room and demanded money,” Mulaudzi said in a statement.
“The two then dragged the gogo to nearby bushes where they allegedly raped and assaulted her.” They left her in the bushes, returned to her house and set it alight, said Mulaudzi.
Community members who noticed the flames rushed to her house.
“They found her in a very bad condition,” said Mulaudzi. She was admitted to the Elim Hospital where she later died. No arrests had been made.

Ex-cop rented out uniforms to criminals
2014-08-22 10:51
Johannesburg - An ex-policeman was arrested in Soweto, Johannesburg, on Friday morning for allegedly renting out police uniforms to criminals, police said.
"We found police uniforms, blue lights, reflectors, name tags... these were used to commit crimes," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.
"The man was renting these things to criminals." The 35-year-old was arrested after a raid on a house in Moletsane, Soweto. "It is understood that he is a former policeman. "It seems that after the criminals have done their jobs they would share their loot with him," said Makhubela.
A stolen Audi A4 was found on the scene. The man, who was also suspected to have been involved in some of the crimes himself, would appear in court soon.
