Ben, It would be nice if you can at least include a link up top back to the source of the article, perhaps the reporter's by-line. Lacking that here, I'm guessing at sub-titles, where paragraph breaks are and extend the text full width, like below. It's easier to follow that way. Also, touches like formatting the headline help, or adding an appropriate image. :)

White farmers respond to Mugabe's threats
2014-07-04

Cape Town - White farmers have reportedly described President Robert Mugabe's recent remarks that whites must cede all land to blacks as "extremely unhelpful" to Zimbabwe as a country.

According to SW Radio Africa, the Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union's president Charles Taffs said Mugabe's rhetoric sent a very bad message to potential investors and was not conducive for growth.

Mugabe earlier this week said the remaining white farmers in the country must go, vowing that whites will never be allowed to own land in Zimbabwe.

Mugabe's comments 'ill timed'

But Taffs said there was no time for racial divisions, adding that Zimbabwe needed to change its narrative when it came to issues regarding land and agricultural production because the country's economy was in absolute crisis.

The report also quoted economist Masimba Kuchera as saying Mugabe's comments were ill-timed and that they will not send a positive signal to investors.

BBC Africa posted on its Facebook page that white farmers in Zimbabwe were taking Mugabe's remarks seriously, adding that the remaining white commercial farmers in the country were living in fear.

Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party launched the land reforms in 2000, taking over white-owned farms to resettle landless blacks.

Low production

At the time, Mugabe said the reforms were meant to correct colonial land ownership imbalances.

At least 4 000 white commercial farmers were evicted from their farms.

The land seizures were often violent, claiming the lives of several white farmers during clashes with veterans of Zimbabwe's 1970s liberation struggle.

Critics of the reforms have blamed the programme for low production on the farms as the majority of the beneficiaries lacked the means and skills to work the land.

Cape Town - A Gugulethu man was alive when his heart was ripped out last month and then allegedly cut into pieces to eat, the Athlone Magistrate's Court in Cape Town heard on Thursday.

Investigating officer Constable Mphumelelo Yengwa said he attended the autopsy of 62-year-old Mbuyiselo Manona, who was allegedly killed by Zimbabwean Andrew Chimboza, 35. "It was conducted by Dr Allie. Dr Allie told me that the heart is not present in the deceased's body and, therefore, when the heart was taken out, he could see that the deceased was still alive," he testified during Chimboza's bail application. "There were small pieces of meat. And those are the pieces that the doctor informed was the heart."

On Wednesday, Chimboza, who runs a window-tinting business, said he stabbed Manona to death in self-defence at the home of a female client on Tuesday, 10 June. He rebutted the State's claim that he had eaten the heart and said the blood on his face was from a bash to the head and Manona's spurting wounds. He could not confirm to prosecutor Quawnita Geyer that he had removed the heart, but conceded he may have made slashing movements with a knife.

Geyer asked Yengwa on Thursday how he found Manona when he arrived on the scene around 23:00. "I could notice from the deceased lying on his back that he had a big wound right there by the right hand side of the neck... and there was a big hole in the chest underneath the left side of the breast," Yengwa said. "There was also three bread knives as well as a fork and all of them had blood." He read out the statement of the police officer who found and arrested Chimboza at the scene.

‘Half-eaten’

According to the statement, the arresting officer said Chimboza was talking with his mouth and hands full of raw meat, saying "I love you Nomonde [Manona's girlfriend]. You are my wife. I did everything for free". The arresting officer saw a fork in a piece of heart on the floor. When he found the body, he saw the flesh between the head and the neck had been "half-eaten" and there was a hole on the left side of the chest. According to the statement, Chimboza was still eating the flesh and the officer ordered him to stop.

The court ruled that the offence would be classified as a schedule five offence, and not as a schedule six offence as argued by the State, since there was no element of premeditation. In terms of schedules five and six of the Criminal
Procedure Act an accused must show it is in the interests of justice to be released on bail. According to schedule six, however, they also have to show that exceptional circumstances exist to justify their release.

Censorbugbear Reports Juan Venter, 2 day old baby of poor-white Boksburg couple, suffers burns in Germiston Hospital: parents plan to sue -- report by Maroela Media's Phillip Bruwer, 16 July 2014.

The parents of Juan Venter, who was two days old when he suffered serious burn-wounds from an electric blanket at the "Bertha Goxwa" Hospital in Germiston said the baby was found by the mother on Saturday-morning covered up by a silver blanket. The mother Mariaan Pienaar, 25, said she was stopped by the nurses on Friday-night from putting warm clothes on him. "His hands and feet were icecold and blue. The nurses prohibited me from dressing my own baby, claiming they are only 'allowed to use their own hygienic blankets." The following morning she found Juan covered up beneath a silver heat-blanket. "The blanket was red-hot and when I lifted it there were huge boils on his knees, his toes and his right-arm'. Ms Pienaar said she was very upset and demanded explanations from the doctor and nurses - who offered three different explanations of what could have caused the burn-wounds.

"First they told me my child 'was born that way'. That's rubbish, we took his pictures shortly after birth and there were no boils on him. "Then they said 'blood-clots had burst inside his legs' because the baby was suffering septicaemia and bronchitis. The doctor claimed he got the boils from the septicaemia. The staff insisted on keeping the baby in hospital and Ms Pienaar refused to leave without her baby. Two weeks after his birth the wounds turned black - and then she was transferred to the Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, which has a specialised mother-and-baby ward."I cannot complain about the treatment at Baragwanath - but they took tests and refused to confirm that the injuries were burn-wounds.

Ms Prinsloo believes that they are protecting the Germiston Hospital. Meanwhile the family has consulted a private medical practitioner who has undertaken to treat the baby free of charge. The couple are empoverished and living in
Boksburg. The doctor has requested anonimity - but she confirmed in an interview with Maroela Media that baby Juan definitely was suffering from burn-wounds. After the mom and baby were discharged from hospital his wounds have cleared up considerably. "We treat his wounds every day with ointment and cover it with gauze, and bandages.' Juan also needs physiotherapy and they will have to wait and see whether the burns caused any permanent damage to the little baby.

The couple are consulting lawyers to 'discuss the road ahead', they said. Ms Pienaar said she was overwhelmed by the help the poor couple received from the community and organisations. She thanked everyone for their contributions and prayers. Gauteng health dept spokeswoman Patricia Mokoena would merely confirm that Juan was born at the Bertha Goxwa-hospital. She would not comment about the injuries the baby sustained there.

‘Necklace’ attack on Afrikaner woman

A white Afrikaner woman, Jenny van Tonder, 63, suffered a necklace attack this week as a black attacker, Edwin Mapatha, 57, threw gasoline over her and her car and then set her alight.

Van Tonder has sustained 25% burn wounds over her body. Her face, chest and arms have been burnt and her throat and lungs severely affected. The “necklace”, a method whereby the victim is burnt alive, usually by also placing a tyre around his or her neck, was popularised by so-called “freedom fighters” from the ruling ANC and South
African Communist Party in the 1980s. A private security guard, Gerrit Coetzee of Special Operations Group, had to arrest Mapatha as the South African Police failed to intervene. In fact, many police officers have been recruited from the ANC’s militia, Umkhonto we Sizwe, whose main war song is “Kill a Boer, kill a farmer”.

Until now, it has not been confirmed or denied that Mapatha is a member of Umkhonto we Sizwe. However, the victim is not out of danger yet. She is being treated in a state hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath, in the black area of Soweto. The hospital was named after Communist Party leader and extremist terrorist, Chris Hani, who was known for his anti white views and influence over the Soweto community. It is feared that Van Tonder could be attacked once again in hospital. Plastic surgeons are supposed to examine the victim. As South Africa has imported a large
number of doctors from the remaining communist countries, notably Cuba, and chances are that they will be Cubans.

Black-on-white revenge attacks are a common occurrence in South Africa, as the state television often incite blacks to go out and kill white people. Both the president, Jacob Zuma, and the then youth leader of the ruling party, Julius Malema, have publicly called for the killing of whites and to “make the dogs and cowards run”. During the notorious “farm murders” elderly white victims are usually tortured for hours before being murdered. Few perpetrators are ever apprehended as police claim to be “overwhelmed”.

Woman’s eyes gouged out by black attackers

A 23-year-old woman’s eyes were gouged out by three black men who only wanted her cellphone and earrings.

The woman, Thembela Mjuleni, was also choked and left for dead in Mandela Park in Khayelitsha on Saturday night.
She was attacked a few metres from her home as she was returning from visiting a friend. She sought help at a nearby house, where her family found that she had collapsed and was unconscious, her older brother said. Mother to an 8-year-old girl, Mjuleni is unemployed but was to have begun a job next month.

She is in a stable condition in hospital. One of her alleged assailants, a man of 28, was identified by residents and assaulted the following day, but police intervened. He was arrested on Tuesday morning and is in hospital under police guard. Details of his injuries could not be established.
