An elderly woman has been hacked to death with an axe on Thursday evening on a farm just outside Pretoria.

Pretoria businessman Pierre Niemand told Rekord he received a call on Friday morning informing him that his mother-in-law, Marlene Brits (70), had been brutally murdered on Niemand’s farm on Thursday.

Niemand said Brits had been living alone with her dogs. “The foreman on the farm saw that a veld fire had broken out during the morning, and ran to the house. When he got there he found a hole in the electric fence, and saw that Marlene had been killed with an axe.”

Niemand said the murder seemed to be part of a robbery. The robber had stolen her cell phone, some cash and had attempted to steal her car. “My mother-in-law’s car had an anti-theft device built in, so he could only reverse a short distance before he abandoned the car.”

Niemand said police forensic units were on the scene to investigate and that they had arrested someone who had apparently confessed to the murder.

Niemand made national news headlines on 17 Mei 2012 when he and his son Vincent crashed in a light airplane west of Bronkhortspruit. The airplane crashed on a runway after hitting a power pole and a fence. Both survived the accident.

Police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo is yet to comment on the matter.

Farm manager attacked and beaten by five armed robbers
-
A farm manager of Komatipoort area in Mpumalanga, was attacked, tied and beaten by five armed robbers on Tuesday night June 2, 2015.
Erick Meiring (64) told Maroela Media he was in his house at about 18:15 when he heard the dogs barking outside. “My house was locked, but when I heard the dogs barking, I thought there might be a visitor. I went outside to look, when I saw five attackers. One had a gun,” said Meiring.
The five attackers overpowered him and tried to suffocate him. They assaulted him and tore his clothes. They tied him and dragged him into the house.

“Of course the first thing that comes to mind when someone’s standing with a gun to your head is that they will kill you. I wondered if they were going to torture me; burn me with an iron, or pour boiling water over me. It was terrifying.”
Meiring said the attackers repeatedly demanded firearms and money, which he doesn’t have. They then began to carry several items from his home, including a television, cell phones, a generator, decoder, microwave, utensils, bags, clothes and his bakkie’s keys.
“I was tied up, but managed to free myself,” said Meiring.
“I laid quietly for a while to make sure they were away and then I ran out of the house and hid in a dark section of the garden. When I was sure it was safe, I ran to my bakkie where I used the radio to call for help.”
A private security company was quickly on the scene to assist Meiring and also provided medical support. Meiring says he was not seriously injured and he suffered only a few bruises and abrasions as the robbers dragged him.
Brig. Selvy Mohlala, police spokesperson, said the police was at the scene shortly after the incident, and tracked the attackers, where some of the stolen goods were found in a wooded area.
“Our investigation has led us to the Orlando informal settlement where we arrested one of the suspects, a 22-year-old man.”
A firearm and some of the stolen goods were found in his possession.
“He did appear in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on charges of burglary on Thursday, “Mohlala said. The other four suspects are still at large.

May be Boers will do something about it.. yay right. :( They were all talk when their country was handed over to the blacks and made waste via the Jew internationalist and still are today

Here is a picture showing the Boers when they actually fought for what they believed.

Family of four attacked by 3 knifemen
-
By ZISANDA NKONKOBE on June 9, 2015 in News · 2 Comments
Drama unfolded at Cambridge cemetery on Sunday when a family was attacked by three knife-wielding assailants.

Aletta Marcus, who was visiting her daughter’s grave, was with her son-in-law, a second daughter and her grandson when they were approached by a man while they cleaned the grave site.

The man demanded money and followed them back to their vehicle.

-
He then picked up a pot plant from a nearby grave and hurled it at her son-in-law, injuring him.

Marcus said shocked as she was by the attack, things suddenly became far worse: two more men appeared armed with knives.

“I opened my car door to let off the alarm, hoping to scare them away,” she said.

“But they didn’t leave. One grabbed my daughter and held a knife to her throat and one chased my grandson and started beating him.

“I got into my car and drove straight towards him, making as if I would run him over so he would stop it.

“He did, and all of them backed off after that, but not before trying to damage my car.”

Marcus said the three men kicked her doors and threw things at the windows as they ran away.

Police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said it was the first of two incidents reported to Cambridge police on Sunday.

Details around the second incident were not immediately clear, but Mbi said it also involved three knife-wielding attackers who demanded cash, a cellphone and a toolbox from the complainant. The men fled on foot.

Mbi confirmed that two cases of robbery were being investigated but said the police had no leads as yet.

“We are warning people to please be vigilant when they visit these state cemeteries and to remain on the alert for any suspicious looking characters,” Mbi warned.

“The SAPS is thinking of ways to work with BCM [Buffalo City Metro] law enforcement on organising patrols in cemeteries because these incidents are increasing in frequency and seriousness.”

The robberies follow an incident at the same cemetery where the remains of former SA National Defence Force soldier Victor Sputla Mlungwane were stolen. Mlungwane’s sister Vivianne Ngxokolo was informed of the bizarre theft on Saturday.

BCM employees noticed that the coffin had been dug up and left open next to the headstone.

The family were informed of the incident by police, who said a case of violation of a grave site was being investigated.

When the Dispatch visited the scene on Sunday, pieces of the marble slab that once covered the grave lay in pieces next to the headstone while pieces of satin, which the family said once lined the coffin, lay scattered on the ground next to an empty rope packet.

Ngxokolo said the family was shocked and confused by the theft.

Ward 15 councillor Dr Dinesh Vallabh said criminals were using long grass and bushy areas around the cemetery as hideouts, and lack of security cameras and guards made cemeteries an easy target.

BCM spokesman Keith Ngesi had not responded to questions sent at the time of writing. — [email protected]

SANDF makes appeal for white recruits

Pretoria - The South African army has embarked on an intensive programme to lure young, white South Africans into the military, the chief of the army, Lieutenant-General Vusi Masondo, said on Thursday.

“The Minister of Defence (Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula) gave the SA Army a directive that we must robustly continue tapping into underrepresented communities and bring in capable, young men and women from that sector of society to serve in our military,” Masondo told reporters at a breakfast session in Pretoria.

“The minister made it known that through government’s non-racial policies, extra efforts have to be made to ensure that we redress the imbalances of our painful past. We must guard against falling into an undesirable situation where our military gets disproportionately dominated by one race group.”

The chief of the SA National Defence Force appealed to the media to help in the national drive to lure young, white South Africans into the armed forces.

Last month, Mapisa-Nqakula said too few whites were joining the SANDF. She then ordered that more whites be recruited to the military.

“When I look at the entry levels of the army, the younger ones, you see that if you go into a hall…you can literally count…how many white young people are coming into the force,” she said.

“That’s a matter of concern because we want to build the kind of defence force which in five years will still continue to reflect the demographics of our society.”

At the same time, Mapisa-Nqakula announced she would be raising the retirement age for SANDF staff from 60 to 65.

“I don’t know why on earth we developed a regulation which directs us to get our people to retire at the age of 60,” she said.

Mapisa-Nqakula said there was no need to change the law, but she would alter regulations which would give effect to the new retirement age.

On Thursday, Masondo said the national army was dogged by problems including budgetary constraints to support the SA Army’s continued presence in other conflict-stricken African countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kimberley - Two elderly men were severely injured during an attack on an isolated smallholding outside Jacobsdal, where they were assaulted, tied up and left for dead.

The owner of the smallholding, 66-year-old Coenraad Bezuidenhout lay unconscious on the house’s floor for nearly 14 hours before help arrived. He was on Sunday still in the Kimberley Hospital’s intensive care unit, unable to speak, following the gruesome attack that left him with severe head injuries.

The incident took place around 2am on Thursday morning.

The other victim, Coenraad Groenewald, 78, who also sustained extensive head injuries during the incident, on Sunday told the DFA that he a noise woke him up at around 2am and then two men appeared and dragged him from his bed to the house’s hallway and tied his hands and feet with rope.

“While tied up the two men assaulted me by hitting me over the head with a sharp object. They smashed my spectacles into my eyes and nose and, while pointing a gun at my face, asked me where Bezuidenhout kept the keys to the safe.

“I told them that I did not know and that they should ask him but he was already unconscious, also lying tied up a few metres from me. He was bleeding from his head and not responding,” Groenewald said.

He added that while the men ransacked the house, he just lay there, praying, thinking that he was going to die.

The men allegedly made off with his cell phone, watch and wedding band, as well as his bakkie.

Firearms and tools, belonging to Bezuidenhout, were also stolen.

Groenewald, after untying himself, was unable to call for help.

“After freeing myself, I also untied Bezuidenhout, who was lying unconscious on the floor. I covered him with a blanket and tried to wake him up but he was not responding. Although I could see that he was still alive I feared the worse,” Groenewald said.

He then walked several kilometres to the neighbours to ask for help but they were not at home. While walking, a vehicle stopped and the occupants assisted him. It was almost 4 pm when medical assistance finally arrived and Bezuidenhout, who had already lost a huge amount of blood due to his head injuries, was stabilised and transported to the Kimberley Hospital. Several bones in his face had been broken and he also sustained bleeding on the brain.

The bakkie was found in Modderriver on Friday. The suspects apparently hit a pole while trying to escape with the stolen goods.

Free State police spokesman, Constable Mosili Ntsika, on Sunday the incident and added that they were still looking for the two suspects, who are wanted in connection with housebreaking and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.

SUDWALA – While recuperating in hospital, the victim of a farm attack, Ms Mariette Saaiman (45) was finding some comfort in the possibility that two of her three attackers had been apprehended. However, police have confirmed that the suspects arrested could not be positively linked to the brutal assault on Saaiman and her husband, Aneil (38).

According to Mr Shaun Terblanche of J&M Security, who attended the scene, the apprehended suspects were responsible for stealing copper after vandalizing a transformer on a nearby farm, after the attack.

The couple was overpowered on Boschkom Estate early Sunday morning.

The Saaimans sustained severe injuries after three men entered their property, tied them up and assaulted them for over an hour.

Mariette had to be operated on as her earlobe was partially torn.

She relayed their ordeal to Lowvelder yesterday morning from her hospital bed in Mediclinic Nelspruit.

She heard birds making a racket outside and decided to investigate as she thought they may have been threatened by a snake.

However, she was alerted when she noticed that a ladder, on which she had been displaying flowers, was lying on the ground. She went back inside the house to call her husband.

They both went outside and the next moment Mariette saw a man running towards her, screaming.

“He started hitting me continuously with a branch. There was nothing I could do,” she cried.

At that stage two more suspects entered the property and started beating Aneil with an iron pipe.

He was forced into the home, while Mariette was tied up in the driveway.

In an attempt to stop her attacker from hitting her, she pretended that she had lost consciousness.

“I heard my husband calling for me but I was too afraid to answer as I feared they would come back to me.”

Mariette added that the suspects did come back for her and demanded the keys of the safe. “At that stage I couldn’t move as my feet were tied. They dragged me into the house and continued beating me and my husband.

They kept on asking questions and if I gave an answer they didn’t like, they would beat my husband. If Aneil didn’t give a satisfactory answer, they would hit me.”

According to Mariette the suspects packed three bags and after they collected what they wanted, they became very calm. “For several minutes they stood in front of my husband’s closet and even tried on some of his clothes.”

However, the assault didn’t stop and according to Mariette what they feared most, then seemed a reality. She was convinced that they were going to die.

The suspects took two weapons from the couple’s safe. According to Mariette, they couldn’t load one of the weapons at first, but later managed to cock the pistol.

“The next moment they took off their balaclavas and I knew this was it. They were going to shoot us.”

She continued, “I started praying out loud and they asked me what I was doing. I told them I was praying and they asked me to whom. I said to God and they asked me what for. ‘Not to kill us and to leave,’ I replied.”

In the meantime, Aneil managed to press the panic button with his elbow when the suspects dragged him into the house. J&M Security arrived on the scene very quickly.

“The men started yelling the numbers ’60-60′ and immediately fled the scene,” Mariette added. She and her husband were rushed to hospital.

Besides a torn earlobe, Mariette also sustained a wound to the head as well as several bruises to her body.

Sgt Gerald Sedibe, provincial spokesman for the police, yesterday told Lowvelder that no one had been arrested and that the suspects are still at large. Bossies Community Justice has offered a reward of up to R50 000 for information leading to the apprehension and successful prosecution of the criminals.

Sandra De Klerk, 75, is fighting to get her husband Gerry, 80, a UK visa after the couple were brutally assaulted during two break-ins at their home in Harare.

Battered and bruised, a pensioner who is fearing for her life in Zimbabwe is urging the British Government to allow her and husband Gerry to move back to Stroud.

Sandra De Klerk, 75, is fighting to get her husband Gerry, 80, a UK visa after the couple were brutally assaulted during two break-ins at their home in Harare.

Traumatised and living in fear, the couple are desperate to move back to Stroud.

But Mr De Klerk has a Zimbabwean passport, making it is difficult for the couple to secure a visa.

"We want to spend what time we have left living in peace and not afraid to venture out of the back door at night for fear of being attacked," said Mrs De Klerk, a former Stroud High School pupil.

"We have looked into what sort of visa he needs but they all have demands which are beyond our reach.

"We have escaped twice with our lives and may not be so lucky the next time."

Image
-
The couple met in Zambia in 1969 and married in Stroud in 1976 before settling in Harare.

They have since suffered several break-ins but last year two men gained entry to the house and attacked the couple, knocking Mr De Klerk to the ground and strangling Mrs De Klerk, demanding money.

"I was beaten and threatened with death until I told them where there was some money," she said.

"They took over $1,000, credit cards passports and items of jewellery."

The couple upgraded their security systems but in April their home was targeted again.

Intruders cut through metal bars which cover the windows and dragged the couple into the bedroom, breaking Mr De kerk's nose.

When no money or valuables were found the men began beating Mrs De Klerk around the head.

"We have a rapid response to a security company but we were unable to reach the panic button," said Mrs De Klerk, whose entire family live in Gloucestershire.

"My husband was knocked unconscious and dragged to the bedroom by his arms breaking several fingers. I was again strangled and beaten round the head.

"We were both taken to hospital and treated for our injuries and had brain scans and chest x-rays. I had bleeding behind my eye and concussion.

She said they couple is too scared to stay in their home overnight and are now staying with her husband's son and daughter-in-law.

She added: "We only return to the house during daylight."

The couple have tried to make arrangements to move to Stroud but are enable to meet the visa requirements.

To ensure family migrants can stand on their own feet financially, Government rules mean that Mrs De Klerk must provide evidence that she has an annual income of at least £18,600 or that the couple have cash savings of at least £62,500.

Because of the collapse of the Zimbabwean dollar in the 1990s, the pair's combined retirement savings were lost.

Unable to raise the money required, the couple have found themselves stranded in Zimbabwe.

Mrs De Klerk's son Peter Cooke, who lives in Stroud, said: "Her greatest desire is to return to the UK for their safety.

"With the numerous forms to fill in and the fiscal requirements they feel they have a mountain to climb."
