In the middle of the 1930s Martin Heidegger wrote a book about the concept of The Event. These were private musings which did not see the light of day until the 1980s. This is a mysterious document full of his obscure prose, and has an outline with such titles as: The Resonating, The Interplay, The Leap, The Grounding, the Future Ones, and The Last God. This is essentially Heidegger’s prospectus of the itinerary of being from the inceptual thinking of the Greeks which is called the first beginning; to the future time of the other beginning which seems to be bound up with this mysterious Event.
For Heidegger what is this Event?
The Event appears to be some kind of mystical happening, it is unprecedented, it cuts off all antecedents, it rescinds all previous prototypes. The Event comes to be through a course of thought, but a thought which in the end does not “peevishly” cling to the past but looks only toward the future; the course of thought is part of what he calls the turn and it adapts and it shoots out false fronts which he calls destinings within destining. In the end the Event simply is the intrusion which comes out of the blue once the lightening flash of the clearing of insight is reached. Essentially this event is the manifestation of the Absolute Spirit realizing itself.
That is as the final state or stage is reached a transformation is undergone in the nature of being, it turns or adapts, and it becomes something else via a change of form or mode. It is in this change that the world picture is no longer one that is framed. Then it is no longer a picture but the real thing.
This special moment is the moment when the creator’s purpose is realized, and soon the change becomes instantaneous and never ending as newer and ever newer versions are achieved. These are the “successive states” which William Pierce spoke of.
It is the flash and the crash, when the stranger or the intruder makes itself known unmistakably in human affairs.
The Greeks would sometimes end a play with what we term a god out of a machine; a craft that is, to lightly touchdown and resolve the disparate plot points in one fell swoop in a way that is arbitrary but final. This is the Event and it will be a real spectacle; the crowd will be standing stock still. For every itinerary has its swerve and once all the loose ends are tied up one has perfect resolution.
But once the crash happens it is no longer an event but a state of mind. Then there is no more history, no more occurrences, no more happenings, for our purpose, which is the creator’s purpose, will have come finally to pass.
