Paradoxes And Parables

The paradox and the parable are the happy hunting ground of all minds which have lost their balance.

The Greeks used to tell paradoxes as parables. Here is one:

A great King becomes enamored of gold and wishes that everything he touches turns into it. This wish is granted but his heart’s desire is stymied by the very nature of reality.

Here’s another one:

By biological science people want to halt the aging process thereby to become immortal. But once this wish is granted they will be unwilling to take the risks that made life desirable in the first place, so their heart’s desire will be stymied by the very nature of reality.

You will notice that this second parable is identical to the first just dressed up in different language.

Here is yet one more:

People want to download their souls into machines thereby to become immortal. But under their predicate eventually the machine will disband and the soul with it, for by instantiating mind in materiality they were stymied by the very nature of reality.

Here is a last one: in your mind build an imaginary machine and limn the universal structures of the very nature of reality, that is see how things truly work and truly are. When it disbands it will be as if you had cut the limb from the tree on which you were sitting and you will hang in the air, or as if when standing you were to have pulled yourself up by your bootstraps despite your own weight and you will henceforth operate under your own steam. Thus you will become free by the very nature of reality.

Every story has a moral and this is it for these: be careful what you wish for because you are going to get it or, in lieu of that, wishes are horses but only beggars ride.

This was once a paradox but time will give it proof as it gives all things.
