325: Roman Emperor Constantine, increasingly favoring Christianity, calls the Council of Nicaea to settle disputes between the major Christian sects. The victorious sect thereby gains Imperial sanction to exile, persecute, and burn the works of members of competing sects. Roman art and culture then begin a decline (see above image of early Christian art) from which they would never recover. Constantine later orders the pillaging and tearing down of temples of the Classical religion created by our race.
