1593: London playwright Thomas Kyd is arrested and tortured for allegedly holding, and privately writing down, “vile heretical conceits denying the eternal deity of Jesus Christ.”
1926: The Italian-built airship Norge becomes the first vessel to fly over the North Pole, in a joint Norwegian-American-Italian expedition.
