1944: Soviet Air Forces bomb the town of Narva in Estonia, destroying the entire historical Swedish-era town; only three buildings remain after the attack. Loss of life is low because the German authorities there, in the midst of a war for their very survival, make the effort to evacuate almost the entire civilian population.
