TODAY IN HISTORY
1870: Maxfield Parrish, the great American painter and illustrator, is born in Philadelphia. Though his career spanned a very long time, from the 1880s to the early 1960s, he never abandoned the traditions of European art or participated in the degenerate artistic trends which were forced on the public beginning in the early 20th century.
