All you have to do is put the url of the video inside the tags which appear when you click the "youtube" button above the text box when posting -- and the video will be shown in your post. Use the actual url from your address bar -- not the 'share' or 'embed' code beneath the video.

Here's an example:

Paste the URL, highlight it, then click the youtube button (alternatively just type "[youtube]" at the beginning of the link and "[/youtube]" at the end). Make sure that the youtube link is http and not https.

That turns this [youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV5e7mWcQJE[/youtube]

...into this

Sometimes you have to manually take off the "s" and convert it to plain http for it to work. Don't know why.

All the best,

Kevin.

I like the initial video selection in which Wells talks about the anonymity of Medieval art in the context of Chartres Cathedral. It got me interested enough to start watching "F" is for Fake.

Yes, I like it too. Despite his acculturation to some bad ideas, Wells had an Aryan soul -- and a great wit. His "Begatting of the President" is hilarious.

All the best,

Kevin.

It seems the forum's current YouTube embedding relies on shockwave-flash. However, due to Flash's numerous security risks (hackers can use Flash exploits to gain control of your computer), more web browsers are disabling its use.

For example, I use Firefox and the YouTube shockwave-flash object is not rendered or displayed at all. In the case of the video linked in the OP, all I see is:
Here's an example:

In order to avoid the many security vulnerabilities of Flash, could the forum's YouTube embedding be changed to use an iframe instead?

There is a discussion on the phpBB forum here https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2347051 which explains how to make this change to the BBcode.

This would have the added benefit of allowing the secure (https) YouTube URL to be used.

I will give it a shot. Here is the video as it appears in the browser:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkruAyp5F6U

removing the "s" results in

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkruAyp5F6U

[youtube]http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkruAyp5F6U[/youtube]

Now let us see what happens....

As you can see....no go....
