Kid Pain

Will bills get paid? The food run out?
That's for Mom and Dad to worry about.
I have a chipped tooth; got sick on candy corn;
my Band-Aid fell off--cut my thumb on a dumb acorn.

Scraped both knees climbing a tall tree in the dark
attempting to escape the grape lava vampire shark.
Weekdays are long, nights and weekends too short;
once-a-week I need to write a book report.

My school-sponsored team plays football holding a flag;
boring lunches are all cold and brown-bagged.
Today was bad--tripped on a hole under sneaky grass;
tomorrow I have to speak in front of the whole class.

Suffer through church every other week;
stutter and blush kissing (yuck!) Grandma on the cheek.
Friends are few, imaginary enemies many and growing;
Mom said I gotta rake leaves so, I guess I'll be going.

True enough for 1970!
Today, kids suffer congoid gangs, bullying
and of course, political indoctrination aplenty.
Parents smother them with gadgets electronic
so they won't be bothered while sipping on gin and tonic
And when they're older, so much older at 15
They find rioting, looting, and burning
for the Jews' communist cause so woke--but not very keen.

I am so glad to be in WV. Donny Boy isn't like the kids now a days! We play with him. ( Electronics are imagination stealers)
I miss the good old days when you go home when the sun goes down.. No cell phones.
Nice poem Ray!
