Not a bad idea, though what I do is similar: I scout out the second hand stores' bookshelves for those titles out of the old National Vanguard Books catalog. It's amazing to have found several copies of The Bell Curve, By Way of Deception, They Dare to Speak Out, and many others. Once, I found a 1939 hardbound edition of Beowulf, fully illustrated and in great condition. I couldn't dig the dollar out of my pocket fast enough.

I was quite sad to see our used bookstores go out of business. I do find some interesting things at the salvation army and goodwell stores though. Another good place is the friends of the library sale. Right now I am building a library of books on homesteading and backwoods living. I think books on how to hunt and butcher, tan hides and old style living are going to be important information in the future.

Ok, now that we are unlocked, it is time for an update on our little volkstead. We now have 40 chickens, 5 sheep, some rabbits and if it dries out soon I will get the gardens in. We also started the fences for the dairy goats. We have the kids working with a broadfork, turning new garden patches. People say we are abusing the children because we make them work. We are trying to instill that old fashioned work ethic in them. That is one of the major problems today. Between social media brainwashing and what they learn from "friends", my St are neglecting teaching the young people how to be productive members of our community. I had a friend who White Nationalist and very knowledgeable in the cause and our world view. But when I asked why he wasn't teaching his children about our beliefs, he said he agreed with his wife that when the children got old enough they could choose if they wanted to learn about it or not. He couldn't answer my question about how they were supposed to choose something they know nothing about.

If the rain ever stops for more than a day, I am going to try sweet corn in the market garden. I planted an acre in a mixture of clover and sweet pea. I have done some research into this mixture for forage for the goats and sheep. Between the gardens and the animals we are in good shape if things fall apart. I can keep everyone fed a least.

Perhaps the month of May will bring more sunshine to your area! There's been a lot of rain in these parts as well, though I don't have much time nor the inclination for gardening.

I finished planting my garden last night. I live in the city, so all I had space for was a 20' x 8' plot, but I managed to get in about 12 different vegetables. I sure do wish I had the space to put in acres of each!

It is nice to have a few acres of land. The gardens we are trying to get planted are 1/2 acre "kitchen" garden and almost 2acres of market garden primarily to sell at local farmers markets.
On a side note: farmers markets are a good places to look for people who are receptive to our veiws.

Understated, as usual, Jim. Not a good time to put in your garden there in Davenport

Flood of 2019 surpasses Flood of 93 levels
By Aaron Hepker
May 02, 2019
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Mississippi River at the Quad Cities has reached it's highest levels on record and continues to rise Thursday afternoon.

Water inundates cars and roadways near 2nd Street and Pershing Avenue in downtown Davenport on April 30, 2019
Meteorologists said the river level reached 22.64 feet shortly before noon Thursday, the previous record was 21.63 feet in July 1993. The river is expected to continue to rise and crest sometime Thursday night at 22.7 feet.

Parts of downtown Davenport remain underwater after the river tore through a temporary barrier. Davenport has no permanent levee or floodwall.

Looks like he needs some mountains to build on. All that flat land is flooded.
