John McCain "Sang Like a Canary" as a POW

Post by David York » Tue Jul 21, 2015 11:49 pm

Donald Trump came under fire recently for issuing the following statement about fellow Republican John McCain: " “He’s not a war hero. He’s a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured."

Here's a couple of articles which say John McCain gave interviews to North Vietnamese, French and Soviet Correspondents after he was captured in 1967. His fellow POWs nicknamed him Songbird. After trading information for medical treatment, he was used as a propaganda tool for the North Vietnamese for 3 years.

“. . .two weeks into his stay at the Vietnamese hospital, the Hanoi press began quoting him. It was not ‘name rank and serial number, or kill me’. as specified by the military code of conduct. McCain divulged specific military information: he gave the name of the aircraft carrier on which he was based, the number of U.S. pilots that had been lost, the number of aircraft in his flight formation, as well as information about the location of rescue ships.”

This information comes from U.S. intercepts of North Vietnamese broadcasts to American servicemen in South Vietnam around 31 October 1967, as well as from dispatches by North Vietnamese and Cuban correspondents — using material from a Nhan Dan (the central organ, the voice of the Communist Party of Vietnam, then and now) correspondent who interviewed John McCain. This material was published on 9 November 1967. The latter were backed up by the intercepts of these messages by the Message Center of the U.S. Department of Defense National Military Command Center, dated 11 November 1967..

I remember from long ago seeing news footage of McCain being interviewed
in Hanoi after being shot down, and he was almost in tears crying about how much
he 'loved' his (first) wife. I remember saying to others watching the same telecast
what a pathetic and pitiful sight he was....it was in 1967...I remember it very
well.... It was around about the time Hanoi Jane was doing her thing over
there....'67 or '68 I believe. To her credit, Jane eventually apologized. However,
scumbag McCain wants to "bomb-bomb-bomb-Iran." If any of the Beach Boys
are still alive, I would hope they would sue the SOB.

5:32PM...

Actually after a little research, Jane didn't visit Hanoi until '72. A minor detail of
interest but to only the most meticulous. At this point in time, the Vietnam disaster
was closer in history to that of the Catastrophe of the fratricidal war in Europe in
1945...
