Growing up in a rural area my family used to travel to the city on Saturdays to get whatever we needed.New appliances,new clothes,dining out...most of the rural families did their shopping on Tunnel Rd.Over the past 15 years the city has become jokingly named 'the exile from San Fransisco' if you ever pass through.It's nothing but gays,hardcore liberals,and freaks literally.Most of the marketing of Asheville itself doesn't reflect a wholesome environment you could just walk through comfortably without the word degenerate coming to mind.If you ever come here the architecture is beautiful but the tacky lifestyle deters your attention away from it.A rainbow gay flag propped over the courthouse was highly distasteful (which is where the tranny was performing).The true beauty here in the Blue Ridge Mountains lies on the Parkway,Clingman's Dome,Chimney Rock,Spruce Pine,Yancey County...real southern culture.About 10 ten years ago it was the black wanna-be white kids pants at their knees and gangland gestures driving up and down Patton Ave. in their low-riders blasting rap music.I hate to see our wholesome areas littered with such garbage .How things have changed...

Yes, the locals in WNC don't call "Asheville", now, "Ashe-weird" for nothing.

How things have "changed", indeed. But, the "true beauty of the area remains"
and the original culture remains in many rural places that you have mentioned,
and also are in still many other places in the WNC and in the Eastern TN region.

You're absolutely right, Iron Wolf. Our mountain culture lives in those small towns and rural areas and many more like them all up and down the Appalachian range, but even in these pleasant places, damage caused by sixty-five years of television is sometimes painfully visible.

The damage is grotesquely out of proportion in especially rotten spots like Asheville and Boone, of course. One is lucky to be able to eat an entire meal at a restaurant in either Asheville or Boone without having to look at a White girl in the company of a male negro, or seeing a couple of obvious homosexuals swishing around.

They're turning it into Assville!
