Mudskippers

Unexpected rain though heavy is warm
and slowly ends in swirling swarm
of puddles split by island stone and grass
where native dreams unleash, free at last
to splish-splash bare toes whimsy-where,
laugh as flimsy clothes soak and flattened hair
covers mother eyes and father care
dancing, falling, happily crawling--making a mess
drinking in life and thinking it best
to just run and play and simply feel
wet and helpless and hopelessly real.
Worries, pains, heartbreaks, everyday stress
wash away in slivers of dirty rivers
down to a little lake to stand and rest
in peace, stranded between sunlit thought and moonbeam shiver.
So refreshed, four parents go inside, dry off, get dressed
and resume the fair mantles of women and men
sparing baby room should spontaneous youth dare call again.
