Indiana's Butler University excludes white students from receiving scholarships
How liberal has higher education become?
Butler University in Indiana is now excluding white students from receiving scholarships.
The school’s $2.4 million endowment now excludes applications from Caucasians, especially males.
Butler will now only award scholarships to African-American students, “female student[s] of Hispanic descent,” and “women of Indian descent,” the school announced.
Roger Clegg, who worked in both the Reagan and Bush administrations said because Butler is a private institution, it can exclude whomever it chooses.
“If the university is involved, either in funding the scholarship or in choosing the recipient, then I think that you would have a hard time justifying a scholarship that is racially exclusive,” Clegg said.
