Shaw University in Raleigh, NC

Post by Will Williams » Thu Apr 25, 2024 11:30 am

I'm putting this news item here in "Higher Education" (in scare quotes) because when I grew up in racially segregated Raleigh in the 1950s and early '60s Shaw was the all-Black college in the all-Black SE section of town. There was never any trouble out of the Blacks there back then because they "knew their place."

It's completely different since then with "desegregation (read: government-enforced race-mixing)," especially today with Blacks not knowing their place as before.

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The 74-year-old man accused of firing a gun on the campus of Shaw University had his bond reduced to $150,000.

Kamal Rasool Abdal-Rafi faces nearly a dozen criminal charges related to the shooting that canceled classes Wednesday.

Investigators said he fired off several shots outside the International Student Center off Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard near South Blount Street in the early afternoon. He then made his way inside the building, which houses classrooms on the first level and the King Khalid Mosque on the second level.

Wake County ABC Law Enforcement Agent Michael Velez was meeting with Shaw University Police Chief Vernon Siders Jr. when he heard gunshots.

Velez started running toward the sound and quickly found himself at the International Student Center. He quickly confronted Abdal-Rafi and got him under control until backup arrived and arrested him.

"He was less than compliant during our interaction. That's why I ended up waiting for other officers," Velez said.

Velez's is now being praised for his quick thinking and brave actions.

"God put you in the right place at the right time when you need to be," Velez said. "And normally I wouldn't have been on that campus or dealing with anything like that. So, you know, I happened to be there and that was a situation."

In court Wednesday, prosecutors said the whole situation started when Abdal-Rafi yelled at a man for walking his dog too close to the mosque inside the International Student Center. Abdal-Rafi then allegedly kicked the dog, pulled out his rifle and fired off four shots....

This armed and dangerous Negro nutcase arrested on Shaw's campus this week reminded me of when I was putting Tom Metzger's "Race & Reason" videos on the Cable Access channel in Raleigh. The Black woman in charge of the studio had hired as her interns all Black students from Shaw, which was located across the street from the big Convention Center in downtown Raleigh.

A small victory I enjoyed back then was getting that arrogant Negress fired for abusing my right to air Race & Reason on Raleigh's Cable Access channel. Some of that story, here on page 3: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5497&hilit=Raleigh&start=20
...I have always used my given name because I never saw a reason to hide behind an alias. It's doubtful that a video of that show is on the Internet, but who knows? Do Cable Access channels still even exist? If so, the one in Raleigh may well have archived past shows. I forget the name of the fat Christian host but recall that he had a weekly show on the channel.

The woman who had been put in charge of Raleigh's CA channel was Black, as was her assistant and all of the interns she had hired. She objected to my broadcasting Metzger's R&R shows and even wrote a letter to the editor of the Raleigh Times newspaper saying that she "wasn't comfortable sharing the same highways or even the same dictionary with Will Williams." Nice. Since she was employed by the city, I took that and proof that she had not been properly broadcasting my R&R shows as required, to the City Attorney, demanding redress, and she was fired. She claimed she resigned to run for mayor of Raleigh; she managed to get something like 360 votes from the Negro community and came in last. It was small victories like that back then that were the sweetest. I recall that may have been in 1987 or early '88, but was probably later.
