Shouldn't this statement actually be "this is why we use a perfect vacuum to INSULATE--and not isolate--thermos bottles?" That is what I recall from so many years ago when studying how an automotive carburetor pulls fuel from the float bowl into the main metering wells. It is based upon a vacuum effect created in the main metering circuit consisting of a pipe that temporarily narrows, forming a venturi. Fuel is introduced into the air stream through small holes (the main jets) at the narrowest part of the venturi, where the air is at its highest speed, which is where the vacuum effect results.
