THPD receives reports of white supremacist flyers found outside of homes

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Terre Haute Police Department says on Monday they received reports of white supremacist flyers found in yards.

Police Chief Shawn Keen says early reports show the flyers have been found at homes along 19th Street and Ohio Boulevard.

The flyers read “No white guilt”, with links to several white supremacist websites.

Keen says his department has seen similar flyers distributed in the past.

Keen also denounced the flyers but says it is unlikely that any charges can be filed.

“We had the prosecutor look at it the last time and for the most part these people know what they’re doing as far as walking that line between a threat and that’s what they do. They do it just to incite people, it’s disgusting like I said. We’re completely against it,” Keen said.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Western Washington University police said white supremacist posters and stickers were found on the campus early Friday.

The university said the posters and stickers were from the white supremacist group Patriot Front.

They were found on light poles in Red Square, in front of Wilson Library, in front of the Communications building, in Haskell Square and in other places across Western’s main campus in Bellingham.

The posters were removed.

University police have started an investigation.

“Western Washington University strongly condemns the white supremacist beliefs of the Patriot Front. Hate will not be tolerated in our community. Both the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League have the Patriot Front on their watch lists,” a news release from WWU said.

University officials said any more posters found will be taken down immediately.

Anyone who sees such posters or stickers is asked to call the customer service number of WWU Facilities Management at 360-650-3420. Staff will then be sent to remove the posters or stickers on campus property.

University officials said there has been a rise of such incidents in the community.

According to reports, people in Bellingham’s Lettered Streets neighborhood said they recently found white supremacist fliers on their doorsteps.

Earlier this week, Western said it sent an email message to students about two recent incidents.

WWU officials said there was a report of a man shouting racial epithets near the Buchanan Towers residence hall on campus. Another incident was reported in downtown Bellingham where two men were holding rifles.

Through video footage, Bellingham Police verified the men were not pointing at or threatening anyone with the rifles.

“While this may not be illegal, it can also be troubling and feel threatening to those passing through downtown,” the school said in a news release.

Mayor Slams White Supremacist Flyers Posted in Wheeling

WHEELING – Mayor Glenn Elliott has a simple message for an outside white {sic} supremacist group that recently posted promotional flyers in the Friendly City.

“There’s no home for this in Wheeling,” Elliott said. “We’re better than that.”

Flyers from the nationalist group were posted on utility poles and even private properties across the city two or three weeks ago, prompting concerns to be raised by residents and local officials.

While Elliott said the messages themselves are protected under the First Amendment, he considered it vandalism because city code does not permit them to be attached to public utility poles or private property without permission. More so, he said the white {sic} supremacist group’s rhetoric “is not welcome” in Wheeling.

“I don’t think they’re going to find a lot of people in Wheeling who agree with that,” Elliott said.

Ever since the flyers first appeared earlier this month, Elliott said the electric company’s crews have taken them down from utility poles and city workers have removed them from any public areas. Private property owners have also had to remove them from some buildings in the city.

Elliott thinks the outside group, which he said has ties to the violent white {sic} supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va., nearly three years ago, likely moved on after placing the flyers around town.

“It came in, deposited them and moved on. Hopefully they won’t be back,” Elliott said. “Not to say they didn’t have someone (locally) helping them. There was definitely a targeted effort to disperse them all over the place and make an impression.”

He said similar flyers, which include the group’s website, were distributed in the city two years ago.

“You hope they don’t have any local sympathizers helping,” Elliott added. “That they’re outsiders.”

WHEELING — A protest planned Tuesday in Wheeling ended before it began when rumors of violence caused organizers to nix the demonstration [honoring felonious Negro drug addict and porn star George Floyd].

The demonstration was planned to be held at noon, but by mid-Tuesday morning the event had been canceled, apparently due to rumors of violence against protesters and accusations that out-of-area protesters would be bused en masse into the city.

Danville Police investigate reports of 'hate propaganda'

DANVILLE, Ill. (WICS/WCCU) — The Danville Police Department is investigating multiple reports of "hate propaganda."

At approximately 7 a.m. on Friday, June 12, Danville Police began receiving calls from many people who are finding the "hate propaganda," which is a flyer inserted into a resealable plastic bag that contains small rocks.

Authorities said most of the calls came from residents who live north of West Voorhees Street and west of North Vermilion Street; however, there were also many calls as far south as Seminary Street.

Officials with the Danville Police Department Criminal Investigation Division have been collecting evidence in relation to these reports and are canvassing neighborhoods for more information. The incident is being investigated as a felony hate crime under the Illinois Compiled Statutes.

Danville residents and businesses are asked to look for suspicious activity that may have been captured on privately-owned security systems between midnight and 7 a.m. on Friday.

Stickers promoting white nationalist group found in Hinesburg

(HINESBURG, VT) – The Hinesburg Police Department is now responding after stickers from an extremist group, named Patriots Front, have been found across the town.

The department wants to stress to the public that they do not support or tolerate these actions.

The first incident was originally reported on May 12. Most recently they found a sticker placed on the pride flag at the United Church.

“Hinesburg will not be intimidated,” said Anthony Cambridge, Hinesburg Chief of Police. “We have had a number of calls from people who are worried and I’ve told them don’t be worried. Don’t apologize for who you are, we are going to find these people.”

Cambridge also says if you see any stickers placed around town, do not remove them. Instead, contact the police department so officers can document it and respond immediately.

BEL AIR, Md. — Whether it’s the message ‘PF Zone’ in blue paint under a bridge or ‘Patriot Front’ hastily spelled out in this corrugated tunnel under Route 24, someone targeted the Ma & Pa Trail with what many are now learning is the name of a white nationalist group.

“It’s definitely disturbing,” said Gabrielle Baikauskas of Bel Air as she finished her trip along the trail, “I personally haven’t heard of that organization, but anything that happens like that in this county in particular, it disturbs me quite a lot.”

It’s a sentiment shared by Harford County Executive Barry Glassman who quickly lined up a crew to clean up the mess.

“Not only the vandalism of county and state property with spray painting and graffiti, but The Patriot Front, what they stand for,” said Glassman, “once I had to Google it and find out, but neo-Nazis, racists and just filled with hate, so it’s everything that we don’t want in Harford County.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated The Patriot Front as a hate group and its members are said to push intolerance as a means of preserving the ethnic and cultural origins of their European ancestors.

Signs of the group have only recently popped up in Harford County.

“This is the first that I’m aware of for graffiti that’s been put up and we’re currently investigating that so whether it was connected to the actual group or not, we’re not aware of since it’s so new,” said Capt. Eric Gonzalez of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office, “We have seen a few stickers up at some of the events at the protests or gatherings, but that’s all we have with them right now.”

Whether the group is behind the graffiti may remain a mystery for now, but the fact it is being promoted at all is enough for those who call the county ‘home’.

“The only part that makes me nervous is if this is how it starts, if it escalates at any point,” said Juliette Gray of Bel Air who also uses the trail, “but other than that, I think it could just be people that are bored and they find this way to act out.”

Stickers tied Patriot Front removed; Watchdogs say organization is white supremacist hate group

NEWTOWN — Stickers associated with a white nationalist group were removed from Sandy Hook light posts and reported to police before youth demonstrated for racial justice on Sunday.

The stickers promoted Patriot Front, a relatively new Texas-based group that is classified by two national watchdog organizations as a white supremacist hate group.

“There were no (racially) explicit words on the stickers, but we know that anything from this group is vile hate speech that’s meant to incite and divide,” said Eric Paradis, chairman of the Newtown Democratic Town Committee. The committee posted pictures of the stickers before they were scraped off the light posts. “Whether the stickers were timed directly to the rally on Sunday or the general protests that are going on, we don’t know.”

James Viadero, Newtown’s police chief, said he was investigating.

“We are concerned any time you have something like that which could be inflammatory,” Viadero said on Monday. “This was on town property, so we are out there looking, and staying vigilant.”

Protests, rallies and marches have broken out in Connecticut and across the country over the May 25 public slaying of a handcuffed black man in Minnesota while he was in the custody of white police officers.

Efforts to reach Patriot Front were not immediately successful on Monday. The group’s Twitter account was suspended, and its website did not provide a way to reach its leadership.

The Southern Poverty Law Center calls Patriot Front “a white nationalist hate group that broke off from Vanguard America in the aftermath of the deadly “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, of August 12, 2017.”

The Anti-Defamation League, in a report earlier this year about white extremist and anti-Semitic incidents in 2019, said Patriot Front was responsible for 17 incidents in Connecticut last year and “66 percent of the propaganda incidents nationwide in 2019.”

Late last summer, Newtowners rallied behind a 100-year-old synagogue that was defaced with anti-Semitic language and symbols. After painting over the vandalism at Adath Israel Synagogue, town leaders invited the Anti-Defamation League to speak in Newtown.

In a similar way, Newtowners have rallied behind the cause for racial justice, in opposition to the Patriot Front stickers.

The Newtown Democratic Town Committee posted a commentary on Facebook, with photos of the stickers being scraped off light posts.

“Can we cover the spots where their stickers were with stickers promoting love and acceptance?” said Jennifer Clarkson Killin in response.

Fellow commentator Juan Taylor agreed.

“We don’t need this type of hate in our town! When you see the flyers, take them down and do not post pictures of them,” Taylor wrote. “They promote hate and division. We are better and above that.”
