Promotions for white nationalist groups keep showing up on the chans

Multiple figures claiming to represent white nationalist groups have been promoting or trying to recruit for those groups on online message board sites 4chan and 8chan -- sites that are already in the spotlight for the white nationalism and far-right content that proliferates there.

Posters on 4chan are well-known for their tendency to spread hate speech and far-right conspiracy theories such as Pizzagate. 8chan was recently knocked offline after it was reported that the suspects of mass shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand; Poway, California; and El Paso, Texas, posted manifestos on the site before carrying out the attacks. But 8chan’s owner, who was recently subpoenaed to provide evidence to congressional staffers, has pledged to bring the site back. Additionally, both sites have at one time or another been the centers for the QAnon conspiracy theory, some of whose supporters have been tied to acts of violence, and QAnon has been flagged by the FBI as a potential domestic terrorist threat.

Given these sites’ clear ties to the far-right, multiple users claiming to be with white nationalist groups have apparently seen them as a recruiting ground to add members to their ranks. Those white nationalist groups include the following:
Identity Evropa (now called the American Identity Movement)

Identity Evropa is a white nationalist group that tried rebranding earlier this year as the American Identity Movement (AIM) to downplay its racist beliefs as part of the “Identitarian” white supremacist movement.

Earlier this year, someone claiming to be a member of AIM posted on 8chan, writing, “You guys should consider joining AIM.” The user added that it “only takes a minute to fill out the application” and linked to the organization’s site. One poster responded, “I will pledge some financial support for you guys.” Other users identifying as AIM’s president or AIM’s representatives encouraged people on 4chan and 8chan to “join today” by posting an image of its site or a link to donate (AIM’s president has denied that the group advertised on the chans).

Legion of Saint Ambrose

According to the Anti-Defamation League, the Legion of Saint Ambrose -- founded earlier this year -- is “a white supremacist group whose members want to rebuild America as a white Christian nation.” The group’s leader, Colton Williams, was reportedly an active member of the now-defunct neo-Nazi Traditionalist Worker Party.

Since at least April, 4chan users suggesting they are affiliated with the group -- including a user with the screen name “Colton Williams” -- have repeatedly posted links to the group’s social media accounts and urged other users on the site to “join the Legion.”

Canadian Nationalist Front

The Canadian Nationalist Front is a neo-Nazi organization founded by Kevin Goudreau, who Vice reported “has been a longtime player in the Canadian neo-Nazi scene” and has been investigated by Canadian authorities for a Facebook post calling for violence. In April, Facebook banned the Canadian Nationalist Front from the platform.

Soon after Facebook’s ban, a poster on 8chan with the username “Canadian Nationalist Front” urged users to “join the Canadian Nationalist Front today,” giving what it claimed was Goudreau’s email. Since then, users on both 4chan and 8chan with screen names “Kevin Goudreau” or “Canadian Nationalists” have repeatedly promoted the organization and its “mission statement” as part of a “recruitment drive” and advertised the organization’s social media accounts.

Ku Klux Klan

Earlier in September, a poster claiming to be “a missisippi chapter klansman” did a question-and-answer session with 4chan users. In the thread, the poster said that KKK leaders should realize “that places like 4chan are ripe with people who could join.”

White Supremacy Group’s Fliers Plastered Across UC Davis Campus, Prompting Police Probe
Posted 1:52 PM, September 25, 2019, by Los Angeles Times

Fliers linked to a white supremacy group were found at UC Davis earlier this week, prompting an investigation by campus police.

The leaflets were stamped with the logo for the American Identity Movement, formerly known as Identity Evropa. The Anti-Defamation League has labeled the group as white supremacists.

It’s the second year in a row that anti-Semitic fliers have been spotted on campus and the third consecutive year that messages about race have been discovered, officials said.

“We are sickened that any person or group would invest any time in such cowardly acts of hate and intimidation. They have no place here,” Chancellor Gary S. May wrote in a statement Monday. “We encourage our community to stand against anti-Semitism and racism. Our Principles of Community remind us to ‘strive to build and maintain a culture based on mutual respect and caring.’”

Police are again "probing" lawful free speech activities. Perhaps crime in that area of California has been solved, leaving the cops with nothing better to do. Yeah, I don't believe that either.

Human Rights Group Warns Of Anti-Semitic Fliers In Helena

The Montana Human Rights Network this week warned of anti-Semitic fliers showing up on doorsteps and car windshields in Helena.

The material targeting Jewish people and Israel was dropped in neighborhoods near the state Capitol building a week before the celebration of Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish new year.

That’s according to Rachel Carrol Rivas with the Montana Human Rights Network.

Rivas says the papers seen in Helena are similar to a series of anti-Semitic papers distributed in Missoula earlier this year.

She says the cars and homes that received the flyers seems random.

Rivas says the appearance of the material in Montana is sporadic, but the hate speech is part of a larger issue.

“What we’ve seen the last few years is generally an up-tick in white supremacists, white nationalist activity in the state. And the mainstreaming of those ideas,” says Rivas.

In a statement from Montana Human Rights Network following the fliers appearance in Helena, Rabbi Lauri Franklin of Missoula Har Shalom called the action of spreading the material cowardly and destructive.

Franklin wrote “Let’s affirm the right of all Montanans to live in safety and in an environment of mutual acceptance and appreciation.”

Auckland University refuses to remove white supremacist signs from campus
Daniel Meech | Guest writer

University of Auckland vice-chancellor Stuart McCutcheon says a new batch of posters from a white supremacist group is ‘unfortunate’ but the university will not remove or condemn them, reports Daniel Meech.

This story was first published on September 29 in Craccum, the University of Auckland student magazine.

The University of Auckland’s campus has played host to white supremacist posters for the second time this year. Students have reported finding blue stickers and multi-coloured posters scattered around the university’s quad area, law school, and general library. The stickers and posters encourage viewers to visit the webpage of a white supremacist group who wish “to build a new generation of capable, young white men who will assume the mantle of re-taking control of our own country”....

Neo-Nazi sticker found on campus
September 23, 2019

Syeda Sameeha
Editor-in-Chief

A Neo-Nazi sticker was spotted Monday morning on Elmhurst College’s campus.

Posted on a parking pole between the cemetery and football field, the sticker promoted the Patriot Front, a recognized white supremacist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

A quote from the United States Constitution, “To ourselves and our posterity,” was prominently displayed on the poster alongside images of settlers.

The sticker was removed after an EC staff member alerted the Office of Campus Security.

“We immediately went and checked the area, and we found a 4" x 6" sticker affixed to a light pole on campus,” said Marc Molina, executive director of Campus Security.

Molina said an incident report was made and is being forwarded to the campus’ Bias Incident Response Team.

The Patriot Front is white nationalistic hate group that focuses on using patriotic and American imagery to promote its Neo-Nazi idealogy. The group broke off from Vanguard America, another hate group after the deadly Charlottesville “Unite the Right” rally in 2017.

White supremacist proganda has been on a rise on college campuses across the nation.

According to The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), there were 313 reports made during the 2018-2019 school year about extremist campus propaganda found on U.S. college campuses. The ADL reported that spring 2019 semester was unlike any other for most documented cases for hate group propaganda.
The usual "hate", "Neo-Nazi", "White supremacist" smears, too many mis-spellings from an "editor-in-chief," and the usual references to the criminal and Jewish Anti-Defamation League show a lack of good journalism. Diversity doesn't seem to bring the best to the table in this particular endeavor, does it?

White supremacist group plasters ASU, Grand Canyon University campuses with stickers in recruitment push

White supremacist group Patriot Front posted stickers advertising their group at Arizona State University’s Tempe campus and Grand Canyon University’s Phoenix campus as part of a nationwide push by the group to recruit members over the weekend.

The group was formed in 2017 and has been known in part for its flyering of college campuses and stickering of communities that it is known to be in.

Patriot Front is also known for spreading anti-Semitic imagery on college campuses in the past. The imagery that was spread on Arizona campuses this time was less inflammatory.

Slogans like “America First”, “Revolution is tradition” and “Better dead than red” were on the stickers. which plastered across ASU and GCU, according to pictures posted by the group’s Twitter.

However, the stickers did include racist imagery, including the group’s logo, which includes a fasces and 13 stars. The fasces is an ancient axe used by the Romans, but the image was used by Benito Mussolini during his rise to power as a symbol of his movement. The number 13 is often used as code to stand for A and C – the first and third letters of the alphabet – which stands for the Aryan Circle. The number is also a common theme in white supremacist groups.

It appears that some 90 college campuses were targeted over the weekend by the group, which bragged on social media where its members had posted stickers.

ASU experienced no incidents of anyone clashing with anyone posting the materials on campus, according to ASU spokesman Bret Hovell.

“Sometimes ASU, like other universities, has experienced strange notes from strange people who are not a part of the ASU community being posted around campus,” ASU President Michael Crow said previously in 2017. The quote was sent to the Arizona Mirror as the University’s response. “At ASU, we see them for what they are: The rantings of unhinged hate-mongers bent on disrupting the lives of people who are moving forward into a future that these Cro-Magnons fear. We have removed the messages and have moved on about our business.”

At GCU, a spokesman said the stickers are currently being removed and said that any stickers placed on campus have to go through an approval process. There were no incidents reported on the campus of anyone involved with the group clashing with anyone while on campus.

College campuses in Arizona have been the target of white supremacist stickers and fliers before.

In 2017, hate group Identity Ervopa was placing information at several college campuses across the state.

Leaked chats by the group released last year by independent media outlet Unicorn Riot revealed that members from the group had been engaged in a campaign to continue to place fliers and other information a community colleges and campuses across the state.

The group also re-branded itself as the Foundation for American Society, which registered as an Arizona company in March.

**UPDATE: This story has been updated to include comments from Grand Canyon University.
What about comments from Identity Evropa (now American Identity Movement) and Patriot Front? Why weren't they contacted to comment as is the usual practice in journalistic endeavors? Perhaps this isn't journalism, but is instead one-sided commentary.

Jewish temple finds ‘disturbing’ note and DVD, North Carolina cops say

By Hayley Fowler
September 27, 2019 05:34 PM, Updated September 27, 2019 05:34 PM

Someone deposited “offensive” and “disturbing content” at a synagogue in North Carolina just before one of the Jewish high holidays, police said.

Now law enforcement is investigating.

Temple Emanuel reported the incident to the Winston-Salem Police Department on Sept. 13, police told McClatchy news group in an email.

“At this point, I can confirm that the WSPD is investigating an incident regarding a document which contained offensive/disturbing content,” Captain C.A. Lowder said. “The investigation is active and outside law enforcement agencies through our assigned Task Force Officers are currently assisting our agency.”

Shelley Lynch, a spokesperson for the FBI office in Charlotte, told McClatchy her office is “aware of the pamphlets” and communicating with police “in case information related to a federal violation is uncovered.”

The Winston-Salem Journal first reported the incident Thursday, citing an email that was sent to the synagogue’s congregants.

Rabbi Mark Cohn confirmed the email was sent but declined to comment, saying only that this is the first such incident Temple Emanuel has seen in recent years.

Police responded to the synagogue around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 13 — a little more than two weeks before Rosh Hashanah, also known as the Jewish New Year, which starts Sunday evening.

According to the incident report, responding officers found one note and one DVD.

Lowder did not elaborate on what information those materials contained or where they were found. He also said no arrests have been made or charges filed.

In addition to police, Temple Emanuel reported the incident to the Anti-Defamation League.

“We had a report of clearly anti-Semitic, white supremacist literature being left at the location,” Doron Ezickson, head of the ADL’s Washington D.C. office, told McClatchy.

ADL is a self-proclaimed “anti-hate organization” founded in-part to stop antisemitism. Ezickson said they also provide resources on hate groups, extremist symbols and the ideologies associated with them.

The ADL has recorded 58 similar incidents in North Carolina between 2018 and 2019 — including 31 instances of white supremacist propaganda and 24 instances of antisemitism.

None were reported in Winston-Salem during that time frame.

“The intent of somebody who wants to spread hate is to have maximum disruptive impact, potentially with minimal effort,” Ezickson said, citing the psychology of a hate crime.

Police did not say whether they’ve increased security measures at the temple, and Cohn declined to answer.

But other groups have rallied behind the synagogue in the days since.

“We condemn this act of anti-Semitic hate and stand in solidarity with the North Carolina Jewish community,”Ibrahim Hooper, the communications director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said in a statement Thursday.

CAIR said Temple Emanuel was also named on a white supremacist blog.
Something happened somewhere! But where's the evidence? What flyers? Who takes credit for distributing it? What "White supremacist blog?" If there are no threats (and the article did not state any were made) then why are the police investigating a case of free speech? Crappy journalism here.

Note how the Islamic version of the criminal ADL has chosen sides here, at least for now.
