The Trouble with People

The Trouble with People is a Cosmotheist lecture given by Dr. William Pierce on November 7, 1976 at the office of the National Alliance in Arlington, Virginia.

Many of our people who are attempting to recruit new members, or even to get a new person to come to one of our Sunday evening meetings have commented to me recently how very difficult it is. In the first place they find that people resist new ideas. Most people are pretty much in agreement with what their TV set has told them, and they don't want to be told by someone else that their TV set has been lying to them.

That's the largest category of people that we meet. But even those people who are wise to the lies of the controlled media are not easy to motivate. Some are afraid, even if they won't admit it. They are afraid to say or do anything including joining the Alliance which may cause Big Brother to retaliate against them in some way. They're afraid they'll be fired from their jobs, or that their tax returns will be audited, or that something else unpleasant may happen to them. And then their are the slobs who are just plain selfish or lazy and who just don't care. They agree with us they say, but they can't become members because they need that three dollars a month for other things -- beer, cigarettes, clothes, new records for the hi-fi or what have you. Or they can't come to a meeting because they ordinarily bowl on Sunday nights, or they have to get up at six o'clock the next morning, or it's to far to drive, or they'd miss their favorite TV program or something.

Now when we talk to people like this, day after day, and most of the people we that talk to are like this, they fall into one of the categories I've just described. When we talk to so many people like this, it's easy to become disillusioned, discouraged, and cynical or what's just as bad, to retreat into hobbyism. Well it's a good thing to become disillusioned, to get rid of false expectations but it's very bad to become discouraged, or to become cynical, or to become a hobbyist, and by that I mean a right-wing gossip who subscribes to everything, joins everything, and although he really believes nothing, he makes a great game out of pretending.

The reason that so many of us start off with illusions of easy success is that we tend to judge others by ourselves. We expect other people to react the same way that we do to something which is so obviously true and right and exciting.

I remember the first political magazine (note: National Socialist World) I published ten years ago. I printed and mailed out three thousand copies to individuals, to libraries, news agencies, some prominent right-wing politicians and others. I thought I was dropping a real bomb which would shake up the whole world. I really expected that I would receive long distance telephone calls from hundreds of excited people and that at least a thousand subscriptions would come pouring in. And I also expected that the enemy would immediately begin harassing me and attempting to silence me. And when almost nothing happened I just couldn't understand it.

No long distance calls, no jewish harassment, no signs that my magazine had inflicted a mortal wound on the system. What I did receive was a hundred and twenty or a hundred and thirty subscriptions or about one response from every twenty five persons who received my magazine. People older and wiser than I told me that I had done quite well to get even that much response.

I had judged others by myself. I had expected the people who received my magazine to read it and then to exclaim, "Ah! Here is truth. Here is righteousness. Here is wisdom. Here is beauty. The man who has dared to publish this has real courage. He has identified the enemy. He has suggested that we fight the enemy and he has offered us a creed to serve as a basis for our fight and for building a new society. Wonderful! I'll do everything I can to help him and to join him in any way that I can."

At least I had expected a lot more than one out of 25, a lot more than the four percent response that I got to react in that way. And actually my real response was a lot less than four percent, probably closer to say one quarter of one percent because most of the four percent who did subscribe were certainly "hobbyists," people who were not interested in really fighting the enemy or in building a new world but only in amusing and titillating themselves, only in pretending to do something from the safety and comfort of their easy chairs, only in having something new and interesting to gossip about with their fellow hobbyists.

I had expected the world, in other words, to be idealistic and I had run head on against the hard fact that it is not. I had found out the hard way that most people are incapable of recognizing the truth even when their faces are rubbed in it and that furthermore they are not really interested in knowing the truth even if they recognize it. They would just as soon stay with the lies that they have gotten accustomed to and are comfortable with.

I discovered also that people are almost incredibly timid in that they are selfish and materialistic as well and that their only real concern in life is in pleasing themselves and in being safe and comfortable. In other words what our late Secretary of State, Earl Butz, said about Negroes and got fired for it, is not only true of Blacks but it's also true of most Whites as well. So I lost my illusions but instead of becoming discouraged or cynical I tried to understand what had happened and I think it's important for all of us to understand so that we don't continue laboring under false ideas and don't become discouraged when our expectations are not met.

Before we start looking at the shortcomings of our fellow citizens that we must take into account in our recruiting efforts though, let's remind ourselves of one very positive and encouraging fact and that fact is that no matter how little people seem to be motivated by idealism, still the divine spark, the fire of God is in them because they are, parts of the whole. No matter how much they are like the other animals on this earth, like sheep, even like lumps of clay, they are still the highest embodiment of the Creator.

Men have dreamed great dreams and then worked and fought to make the dreams reality. Civilizations have been built. Mozart and Beethoven and Wagner did compose. Michaelangelo and Leonardo and Rembrandt did paint. Shakespeare and Milton did write. Newton and Darwin did commune with the Creator and discovered many of nature's mysteries. And great idealistic movements involving millions of people have arisen and transformed the whole world time after time.

So let's always keep that in mind. Let us remember that no matter how much trouble we may have with people who will not or can not respond to our message in the way we would like them to, no matter what obstacles we must overcome, the force pushing us onward in our task is the eternal and irresistible life force symbolized by our rune. It's the upward driving force of the Creator seeking self-completion and it can not be stopped. The only question is whether we ourselves, you and I, will play a role in the things that are to come, or whether we won't. Whether we'll help the life force in the accomplishment of it's task, or whether we'll stand aside, or even get in the way.

So people are, we are, like many other parts of the whole, animals and animals are motivated primarily by instinct. They are programmed by the Creator to react in certain ways to certain situations. A dog or a rattle snake or a tarantula or an eagle has relatively little to say about the way it will behave, the way it will conduct its life. Its instincts govern it and the same is true of Man with only a slight difference in degree.

Now men can reason and they can do idealistic, or let us say, unselfish things. But as a matter of fact, so can many other animals. Anyone who's ever owned a dog or a cat knows that they can reason although not as finely as man. In the higher animals at least, dogs and cats and horses are capable of unselfish acts. Again, it's a matter of degree -- we're all parts of one whole although we're different parts.

We've made the mistake in the past of imagining that a great gulf separates man from the rest of life, from the other animals. That man is a reasoning, compassionate, idealistic creature, and that the other animals are not. Above all we thought, Man reasons and the other animals don't. Well now we've learned in the last few decades that the ability of non-human animals goes quite a bit beyond the sort of reasoning we can observe in our pet cat's and dogs. Chimpanzees, for example, we know now use not only tools but they also make tools. And they can be taught to communicate with men using a language complete with rules of grammar even though they're vocal apparatus is not suited for human speech.

So the great gulf has disappeared and in its place we have a continuum, a continuously ascending hierarchy of life. The ability to reason and to do other things we once thought of as exclusively human is distributed along this continuum and all we can say is that the ability becomes more pronounced, more refined, as we ascend through the various species toward Man, and then through the various races of Man, and finally through the various individuals that make up our own race. But just as we now must share our so-called human attribute of reason with other animals, so we share their attribute of instinct much more than we were formerly willing to admit. The fact is that although man can reason, it's instinct, or inborn behavior which is pre-programmed by the Creator which determines most of what we do on this earth.

Some people, especially those who have been influenced by humanist ideas, that is by the notion that human beings are somehow distinct and separate from the rest of the whole and are the possessors of something called human dignity which differentiates them from all other animals and also incidentally makes them all equal to each other regardless of race, color, creed, national origin or sex, such people may find what I've said offensive but that makes it no less true. And it's interesting to note that the principal propagandists for human dignity are the very ones who best understand the essentially instinctual basis of human behavior and who make the most use of that understanding. They are the skilled manipulators of mass behavior who use the news and entertainment media and all the techniques of Madison Avenue to assure that, on the average, we'll think and vote and spend our money the way they want us to.

They manipulate our sexual instincts and our herd instinct or instinct to conform to those around us, and our instinct for self-preservation. Just about the way that we use our knowledge of animal behavior to get our domesticated animals, our cattle, our sheep, our horses, to do what we want them to. The only essential difference being that the Madison Avenue manipulators must use a considerably refined technique. Consider, for example, herd instinct, that's a simple name for a very complex phenomena, It governs our behavior in many different ways, some of them quite obvious and direct, others much more subtle. It's not reason but herd instinct which tells us to wear approximately the same type of clothes as the people around us; to read the same books; to cheer for the same team; to like the same music; and to pay the lip service to approximately the same political, social, and religious ideas. A person doesn't become a Baptist, or a Quaker, or a Catholic through a process of comparing these different sects and then making a rational decision as to which one is best, at least 999 out of a thousand people don't do it that way. A person goes to the church he loves because it's the one the people around him, usually his immediate family, go to.

And herd instinct also plays a very important role in determining people's attitudes towards things like racial integration, racial intermarriage. People will generally be for or against the things that their neighbors are for or against. Again it's not reason which determines their attitudes, not a calculated attempt to curry favor or to be popular by pretending to agree with one's neighbors, at least not in the great majority of cases. Ones beliefs and attitudes genuinely change in order to stay in harmony with what one perceives to be the beliefs and attitudes of those around one and it's herd instinct which causes this change.

Now I don't want to spend a lot of time tonight trying to analyze this phenomenon -- it's a complex and tricky subject with all sorts of complications. As just one example, people don't usually remain among the same neighbors all their lives. They move from one part of the country to another to go away to school, to change jobs and so on. And the attitudes acquired in one environment, that is among one particular group of neighbors, take a while to change when a person moves into a new environment, a new group of neighbors.

And since, because of all the moving around that we have today in this country, no environment, or at least very few environments are really homogeneous anymore but instead consist of people from many different environments with consequently different attitudes, why then herd instinct has a little trouble in deciding just which shades of opinion to make a person conform to.

Furthermore there are often conflicting instincts at work simultaneously. Take racial integration, for example. We have on the one hand a natural xenophobia which tends to keep us from mixing with alien races and on the other hand we have the influence of the manipulators using herd instinct to make us conform to their immediate projected goals of integration and forced equality. But despite the complexity of the instinctual control of our behavior we can make some general observations.

First, the dominate role of instinct in our lives is not, as the liberals would have us believe, something shameful, something to be overcome, something which despite the fact that we share it with other animals is somehow less than human. No, it's simply the way things are and if we look at it the right way then it's pretty hard to criticize the Creator for it. If sex, for example, were a matter of reason instead of instinct, why then none of us would be here. Our race would be extinct, because long ago some nutty religion would have sprung up and declared sex sinful and told us that the only way to get into heaven is to remain chaste but no such religion has ever prevailed though a number have tried because our sexual instinct just wouldn't stand for it. And to our xenophobia we also owe the very existence of our race. It's what has kept us from mixing with non-White races long ago and, thereby, disappearing through the process of amalgamation. In fact, evolution could not take place at all if there were not an instinctive tendency of like to breed with like.

Our reason can easily be fooled but our instincts, in general are far, far wiser, far less fallible. When reason and instinct are in conflict it will generally be the instinct which is right. It's our instincts which show us the way to the upward path and our reason which must be used as a tool to help us in the direction pointed out to us by our instincts rather than being used as a means of opposing these instincts.

But again we're dealing with a complex and tricky subject and we have to be very careful about our conclusions. For instance, I just said that our instincts are usually right BUT one of the ways in which we have been led astray has been through the artificial manipulation of those instincts and in today's unnatural society even we are obliged to buck some instincts, herd instincts for example, in our work to bring about certain changes which will allow a more natural play of our instincts and allow the Creator's upward urge to again become predominant.

There is one firm and safe conclusion we can draw, however, and it's this: our efforts will be more effective, we'll be more successful in recruiting new people the more we are able to work with people's instincts instead of against them. Now we are appealing to just one instinct. It's the highest, the finest, the noblest instinct that we have -- the Creator's urge toward self-realization but we cannot now also appeal to people's cruder instincts, the instincts which, in most people, are the dominant ones. We cannot, at this time offer people safety or popularity or wealth. All that we can offer them is an opportunity to make sacrifices, to undergo dangers and hardships, and to suffer social ostracism for the sake of the Creator's purpose. And that means that our message will find a response only in a small minority of our people at this time. That makes things slow and difficult and often discouraging for us but there's no way around it for a while yet.

The good aspect of this is that we'll recruit only the spiritually best of our people and those are the ones on whom we must build our foundation. But time is also important to us, we have two thresholds to cross which we discussed earlier and we want to cross them as soon as we possibly can. And so we must be thinking now of the ways in which we can broaden our appeal in the future to ways in which we can appeal to people's other instincts in a natural and healthy way consistent with our purpose.

The most important of these ways is the building of a genuine organic community. When we have not just a collection of people paying their dues each month to the Alliance but a real community of men and women and children living together, working together, and sacrificing together for our common purpose, our shared purpose, then we will have come a long way and it need not be an especially large community. What's more important than numbers is the sense of community, the feeling of community. When we have that then we can put our own herd instinct to work and it will be a much more powerful, more compelling herd instinct than that which the enemy is now manipulating because the enemy, in order to accomplish his destructive purpose, had first to set about breaking down and undermining the already existing sense of community in America. Before he could begin employing herd instinct to promote racial mixing he had to destroy the basis on which herd instinct had formerly opposed that mixing. He had to destroy White solidarity. He had to turn a national and racial community into an atomized mass of individuals, and that's exactly what he's done.

I doubt that anyone here feels a sense of belonging to Arlington, Virginia, say, as a community or to Washington, or Falls Church or Silver Spring, or wherever you happen to live. That disappeared years ago, decades ago in America, and people miss it. There are, I'm sure, a few neighborhoods left in America, ethnic neighborhoods, racially homogeneous neighborhoods, South Boston perhaps, a few other places, but the seeds of their destruction have already been sown and are growing fast and the same is true of nearly all the various Christian churches, all the other social entities which use to provide for people the feeling of community which their souls crave and so it will be of enormous importance to us when we have in the Alliance a real community and can offer to soul-sick Americans the sense of security, of companionship, of moral reinforcement which only belonging to an organic community can provide.

That's what we can look forward to and that's what we must work for now. When we have it then we'll not be obliged so much to buck people's instincts and our recruiting efforts will certainly be much, much more effective. But for now we still have to do things the hard way and it will be slow and difficult for a while yet and all I can say to you is that we must continue building our own consciousness and thus our strength in the ways that I've told you about and we must concentrate our efforts on person-to-person recruiting, each of us every day in the way that I talked to you about a couple of weeks ago, and then we will have a community, and we will cross our two thresholds, and our truth will prevail.

Hello Folks,

Compare the above with this below and see for yourselves where the
"trouble" arose for the late Dr. Pierce's NA:

======================================================================================================

Commentary by Chairman Erich Gliebe

Corporations need to evolve, businesses need to evolve, franchises need to evolve, and organizations need to evolve, all out of necessity, because times change. It’s been said elsewhere that success in life isn’t based on the ability to simply change; it is based on the ability to change faster than your competition, customers, and business.

The great Italian historian, diplomat, philosopher, and writer during the Renaissance, Niccolo Machiavelli, once wrote: “Whosoever desires constant success must change his conduct with the times.”

Although it has made noise over the forty years of its existence, the National Alliance has never been a very large organization, and it has never been powerful enough to effect change. After our founder Dr. William Pierce was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July of 2002, I spent a considerable amount of time with him going over the Alliance’s roster of supporters, discussing tactics, and of course, listening to him lament that he felt his mission in life was incomplete. “If I could have had just five more years!” he would bemoan.

On July 23, 2002, at the time of death of our founder Dr. William Pierce, the National Alliance had approximately 1,210 supporters on its roster list. And out of those 1,210 supporters, I would say that less than 150 of them were very active. Six months later we had grown to 1,292 supporters, which was probably our peak, as far as numbers go.

Our best year from an organizational and business standpoint was actually 2004, two years after our founder’s unfortunate passing. Despite the fact that our overall numbers in 2004 may have been lower than in 2003, we had a far higher percentage of activists in the Alliance. In other words, we had more organized Alliance activity and far fewer supporters sitting on their hands; but most importantly, we had very few cultists. In 2004 we established more Local Units than ever before, and held regional conferences and European cultural festivals in different geographical locations.

Of course, anti-White watchdog groups such as the Southern Poverty Law Center drastically toy with figures to suit their needs. In a recent report, I believe the SPLC claims that the Alliance had something ridiculous like 1,700 members in July of 2002. This distortion of facts by the SPLC is obviously presented to the public in a deceitful manner, and is repeated over and over in the mainstream media. The SPLC wants people to falsely believe that the minute our founder passed away the Alliance began to wither away, but that just wasn’t the case.

When Dr. Pierce was alive, the controlled media and hostile elements would attack and ridicule him. Now that he has been dead for twelve years, these same elements are now building him up to superhuman status.

And not only are membership figures inflated by the mainstream media, but sales figures as well. I don’t know how many times I’ve read that Resistance Records was at one point turning $one million a year in sales. That’s kind of strange; as I ran Resistance for fourteen years and I remember the company having only one or two months of significant sales, that being in late winter 2002, when we were featured on the cable network VH1 and simultaneously released a video game.

The sad reality is that the Alliance’s tactics have not worked. The overall quality of life in America has progressively gotten worse since the Alliance’s formation forty years ago.

Having led the Alliance for three decades, Dr. Pierce was certainly not satisfied with where the Alliance stood in the overall big picture. He regretted the fact that the Alliance had only one Local Unit (Cleveland) that was able to host major events with the general White public, rather than just cater to the same familiar faces and preach to the choir. He also complained that the Alliance still attracted far too many hobbyists and constitutional losers. In other words, our founder felt the Alliance did in no way accomplish what he had hoped for when he founded the organization three decades prior. To be quite frank, Dr. Pierce thought the Alliance would last only six months after his death.

When I first joined the Alliance in 1990, it was considered a book club with a cult following. In 2002, the Alliance was considered an organization/semi-cult. In 2004, our best year ever, the Alliance was looked upon as an organization with the cult status long forgotten. However, here in 2014, there are those who would love to make the Alliance a full-blown “Pierce cult.” Some of these cultists even talk of spirits and ghosts wandering around the National Office property. Sadly, Dr. Pierce never went for that mystical nonsense.

When I put the back acreage of the National Office property on the market last year, a handful of lunatics began howling online about how Dr. Pierce’s spirits were being disturbed or some other ridiculous gibberish. Every realistic Alliance supporter I have spoken with agrees that the property does absolutely nothing for the White race, and the funds obtained from any such sale would be better spent elsewhere. To pay tens of thousands of dollars on property taxes over the years so that Dr. Pierce’s ghost can wander around is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. Selling the National Alliance property is a wise business decision. Sure, it’s a beautiful piece of land, but our children’s future is much more important.

Dr. Pierce had also been involved in a real estate deal and didn’t give a damn about mystical hogwash. Following the death of Ben Klassen, the founder of the Church of the Creator, a White racialist organization based in Otto, North Carolina, Dr. Pierce purchased the COTC property and immediately put it on the market to flip it for a profit. Dr. Pierce wasn’t interested in sentimental things, such as the property once being home to the renowned writer, activist, and inventor, Ben Klassen. No; Dr. Pierce was simply interested in making money with the real estate transaction and didn’t care whose sentimental feelings were hurt.

Dr. Pierce chose Mill Point, West Virginia as the Alliance headquarters for personal reasons. When he was asked why he decided to relocate the headquarters (from Arlington, VA) into the middle of nowhere, our founder said that he couldn’t take living in the Washington, D.C. area any longer. Dr. Pierce had a reclusive personality; he didn’t care to mingle with people. Having a headquarters on a West Virginia mountain may have fit in with Dr. Pierce’s personality, but it has had serious drawbacks for running a business and an organization that deals with people.

When he relocated the Alliance to Pocahontas County, Dr. Pierce thought he would be able to attract healthy families and build a small community. But unfortunately, that was just not the case. Finding quality staff members has always been a problem, and over the years many of those hired for staff positions have come around to hurt us immensely. I attribute this solely to being in such a remote location; quite often we were forced to take what we could get. One of our former staffers became a convicted quadruple murderer after he left the Alliance. Another former employee ripped us off for $35,000 and then fled the country. And yet another fled in the middle of the night after attempted rape accusations surfaced. I could go on and on.

Quality people who were successful outside of the Alliance were, for the most part, certainly not interested in giving up their jobs, families, and other interests to work for very low wages on a West Virginia mountain. Because of this, we’ve had numerous problems with several staff members. I don’t know how many times Dr. Pierce would call me in the middle of the night because a staff member was either threatening him or some other serious problem developed.

In 1996, Dr. Pierce sold the rights of his monumental fictional work, The Turner Diaries, to a Jewish publisher, Lyle Stuart of Barricade Books (note: the rights eventually reverted back to Dr. Pierce). Dr. Pierce didn’t give a damn about Stuart being a Jew; he simply wanted to get the book into the hands of as many people as possible, and of course, make more money. Dr. Pierce thought that a Jewish publisher would be able to bring in far more sales than he ever could. Could you imagine the outcry from the lunatic fringe if I sold The Turner Diaries to a Jewish publisher? The nutty cultists would be whining endlessly on the Internet about how Dr. Pierce’s ghost was having a heart attack due to his writings being in the hands of a Jew.

Following Dr. Pierce’s passing, I was sort of caught in the middle of some major decisions that needed to be made. The first was the meeting hall. At the time of his death, the William Luther Pierce Memorial Hall was still under construction and just a shell. A lot of money had already been dumped into it, but still a ton more needed to be spent for its completion. I had thought all along it was a huge mistake to construct such a hall in the middle of nowhere. And I really cringed when I found out that an FBI informant and SPLC contributor was the one who convinced Dr. Pierce into building that hall in the first place.

Nevertheless, I decided to go ahead and complete construction on the meeting hall. It ended up costing even more money than anticipated with the expensive flooring, drop ceiling, quality chairs, etc. But in April of 2004 we opened the William Luther Pierce Memorial Hall to a packed room of our largest leadership conference turnout in Alliance history, so it seemed that perhaps building the hall wasn’t such a money loss after all. And then in October of that year we held another leadership conference to a capacity audience in the new hall.

However, due to our growth, and the fact that we had to deal with so many different types of personalities and characters in our organization, we were attacked from not only groups like the SPLC, but also from within the Alliance. Because we never had – up until a few years ago – a probationary period for prospects, it was so easy for anyone to send in an application and be accepted into our ranks. And unfortunately, as things played out, several people with serious character flaws came to us and caused serious problems for the Alliance.

In my opinion, White racial membership organizations are a thing of the past. I would not recommend for any healthy White person to sign their name on a membership application for any racialist group, because no matter how secure a mailing list is guarded, leaks can and have happened, and there is no sure foolproof way to keep those of defective character out of an organization. That is the sad reality of things.

Because we have a vision, the Alliance has also drawn a certain quota of escapists: people who are unwilling or unable to face the real problems of organizational work and instead prefer to build sandcastles in the air, replete with fantasies of being a great leader or a master strategist. Some of these “empire builders” will talk of spirits and ghosts wandering around the National Office; torchlight parades (even though the average White person we’re trying to reach couldn’t even grasp the concept of a torchlight parade); a Third Reich-style government being implemented in a nation with a population of over 150 million non-Whites; and camping outings where only ten people show up (five of them being from one family) and the escapist “camp leader” foolishly thinks he’s making headway.

As I stressed at the beginning of this commentary, organizations need to evolve if they are to achieve success. Time stands still for no one. John F. Kennedy once made the following statement that I am totally in agreement with: “Change is the law of life and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

Now while it is important to understand the above quote from former President Kennedy, it is, however, important to learn from the past. We are nearly seventy years removed from World War Two and the National Alliance has been around forty years. Here is what we should have learned by now, and why the tactics we have employed for four decades did not work:

1) You cannot appeal to directly our people for racial preservation. They have been programmed and molded to think about themselves and that’s it. Not enough White people will respond to calls for “saving the White race.” The great White masses just want to consume, and that is why the pro-White Cause never gained any traction. We can pass out all the fliers in the world, but it will effect no change because not enough people care. This is why we need to reach our people indirectly with the New Direction.

2) The concept of “preserving the White race” is far too abstract to ignite a spark in our people, and that is why an organizational cadre or infrastructure has never materialized in the four decades of the Alliance’s existence. And because there is no end in sight, many of those involved in the Cause become far too judgmental and begin attacking one another. We need to set more immediate, reachable goals.

3) It doesn’t matter how truthful our facts are; Whites are merely concerned with their own well-being. If a fellow White becomes a crime victim of non-White perpetrators, no one outside of his/her circle of family or friends will really care. A perfect example of this came in the summer of 2012, when an Alliance activist held a rally in his area to shed light on a then recent interracial (Black on White) crime incident, and as expected none of the local populace came to offer support for their victimized kinsman. This reality needs to be understood by all of us so that we do not waste our efforts on something that has been proven to produce few results.

4) Even though we are not, the National Alliance is called a “hate group” by the mainstream media and it is repeated over and over. The “hate group” designation scares away many Whites who might otherwise want to support us. The media and watchdog groups like the SPLC also lump the Alliance in with “movement” groups like the Klan or Hollywood Nazis, scaring away our people even further. This exactly why we need to be doing things no one else is.

5) Pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into a National Office in the middle of nowhere has hampered our growth. We need to spend what funds we have more wisely. Also, with the Internet it is so much easier for our staff to work remotely.

6) The large meeting hall in West Virginia is basically a white elephant. It’s no wonder that a federal informant/agent provocateur convinced Dr. Pierce to build it. A hall that expensive and that large should be used every single week to get our money out of it, but the remote location prevents that from occurring. We are an organization that deals with people; therefore we need to promote events where people are at. Besides, a large scale meeting hall catering to 500 people can be rented in Cleveland (and close to a major airport) for a mere $225.

7) The strategy of building Local Units has not worked. Only one Local Unit (Cleveland) has ever been able to promote large scale events over a period of time attracting the general White public. Unless we can influence those outside of the Alliance, we are not accomplishing much at all. We need to promote family-friendly events and have a healthy image if we are ever to achieve any success.

Speaking of change, the National Alliance has cut its ties to Resistance Records. After fourteen years, we are now out of the music business. And in case any of you are wondering, it was a federal informant who helped close the deal for Dr. Pierce to purchase the White Power record label in 1999. The informant in question also drove the truck with the Resistance merchandise to the National Office in the summer of that year. The Alliance’s acquisition of Resistance contributed to hostile elements making us into an even bigger boogie man.

In conclusion, I’d like to borrow another quote from Machiavelli: “There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.”

Change is a necessary part of life. Without change, the Alliance would remain static and dull. However, by making the transformation and evolving into our New Direction, we will be able to reach a much broader range of people and, as a result, have a stronger foundation to work with… and have a chance.

Thanks for that, Cosmotheist. It doesn't look like Mr. Gliebe will inherit the McKorkill estate that was left to the National Alliance, though his attorney has appealed the decision of the Canadian court: http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2014/07/0 ... rt-ruling/ Consider the source of this article.

Neo-Nazi National Alliance to Appeal Canadian Court Ruling
By Mark Potok on July 8, 2014

The National Alliance (NA), a neo-Nazi organization that was once the most important hate group in America, has appealed a Canadian court ruling that struck down a bequest of some $220,000 left to it by a deceased Canadian member.

NA attorney John Hughes filed a notice of appeal with the Court of Appeal in New Brunswick, Canada, on July 3. The document alleged a series of judicial errors by Justice William T. Grant, who in early June found that the bequest, which included a collection of ancient coins, violated Canadian law and public policy.

The judge found that the NA’s purpose — which he characterized as “promot[ing] white supremacy through the dissemination of propaganda which incites hatred of various identifiable groups — was criminal under Canadian law. He also found that contrary to the NA’s claims, the group had not distanced itself from its foundational documents, which spoke about the need to murder “homosexuals, racemixers and hardcore collaborators,” the importance of doing “whatever is necessary” to achieve “a White living space,” and the twin goals of a “racial cleansing of the land” and “a long-term eugenics program involving at least the entire populations of Europe and America.” Another NA document openly celebrated white racial violence as “a healthy, red-blooded response to the current situation in America’s cities.”

The judge called the NA documents “disgusting, repugnant and revolting.”

But in his appeal, Hughes argued that Canadian law should not apply to a bequest going to a U.S. group; that the distribution of NA materials in Canada via the Internet was not enough to give Canadian courts jurisdiction in the dispute; that the NA’s purpose was not “White Supremacy,” but rather “the survival of the white race”; and that Canadian law does not allow for that nation’s courts to interfere in the choice of who to leave property to. He also argued that the decision “gives undue weight to foundational documents of the beneficiary, and none to the evidence of the organization’s evolution,” allegedly into a kinder, less violence-minded group.

The judge’s initial decision enjoined any transfer of the estate’s assets to the NA, instead ordering it distributed to the brother and sister of Harry Robert McCorkill, a long-time NA member who died in 2004, leaving most of his estate to the NA.

The Canadian bequest was first brought to public attention in June 2013, when Hatewatch revealed that NA officials appeared close to settling the probate matter and forwarding the proceeds to the NA. Shortly after that, McCorkill’s sister, who like a second brother was estranged from her radical sibling and did not even know he was alive, filed suit, saying that she did not want to see the money go to a neo-Nazi group and that she also hoped to keep the coin collection in Canada. The sister, Isabelle Rose McCorkill, was later joined in the court case by two Jewish human rights groups in Canada and the provincial New Brunswick attorney general.

The case against the bequest could never have been made under American law, which has unusually strong free speech and association protections. But Canadian law has a much fuller concept of the public good, and its foundational Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms allows speech and other “reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society.” Canadian law also makes public “incitement of hatred” — “willfully promot[ing] hatred against any identifiable group” — a criminal offense.

The court battle comes at a time when the NA, which a little over a decade ago was the dominant hate group in the United States, is struggling to survive. It has gone from an organization that brought in about $1 million a year and had some 1,400 dues-paying members to a group that is nearly bankrupt and has only a smattering of supporters left. The group’s current leader, Erich Gliebe, is trying to sell much of its West Virginia headquarters compound to raise money, and he has sold off much of the wood on the site to logging companies for the same reason. A faction led by the brother of the group’s late founder has sued the NA in civil court in an attempt to regain control of the organization. And virtually all of the major personalities in the group, many of whom enjoyed serious movement prestige, have left.

The loss of the bequest could help finally destroy the remnants of the once-storied NA. The group seems unlikely to survive without a source of new funds.

You are most welcome, Will. :D
We will just have to wait and see what the appeal leads to if anywhere.
In either event, if Gliebe inherits it or if the NARRGS do, or neither of
them ever do, really means little to us.
I always do "consider the sources" of any information,
most especially, of the "sworn enemy", like the SPLC.
