Caucasian Colonization Of Planet Venus?

Venus used to be as fit for life as Earth!

Winter Solstice, 1959 — a headline in Life magazine proclaimed “Target Venus: There May be Life There!” It told of how scientists rode a balloon to an altitude of 80,000 feet to make telescope observations of Venus’s atmosphere, and how their discovery of water raised hopes that there could be living things there. As a kid, I thrilled to tales of undersea adventure with telepathic Venusian frogs in (Jew) Isaac Asimov’s juvenile science - fiction novel "Lucky Starr" and "The Oceans Of Venus."

For many of my peers, though, Venus quickly lost its romance. The very first thing that scientists discovered with a mission to another planet was that Venus was not at all the Earthly paradise that fiction and speculative science had portrayed. So how could Caucasians ever possibly hope to live there? The key is to avoid the surface. “The problem with Venus is that the surface is too far below the one-Earth-atmosphere [of air pressure] level,” says Geoffrey Landis, the Nasa scientist and science fiction writer who was among the first to propose the idea. “The atmosphere of Venus is
the most Earth-like environment in the Solar System (other than the Earth).” Some 50 kilometers (30 miles) above the surface, Venus is surprisingly hospitable.

To live on Venus, then, just fill a balloon with nitrogen and oxygen, and live inside the balloon. A big enough balloon will have enough lifting power to support you and your supplies – and a really big balloon could do even more. “A one-kilometer diameter spherical [balloon] will lift 700,000 tons – two Empire State Buildings. A two-kilometer diameter [balloon] would lift six million tons,” says Landis. “The result would be an environment as spacious as a typical city.” But what if the balloon rips? “It's not going to be like popping a balloon,” assures Landis. Because the pressure inside the balloon would be the same as the pressure outside, a rip would slowly leak air, rather than leading to an immediate catastrophic explosion. “It would be like opening a window, and slowly the outside gas leaks in and the inside gas leaks out… The larger the habitat, the slower the process will be.”

An interesting video on the possibilities
of construction of environments that are
Caucasian-friendly high in the Venusian
atmosphere.

The image below is what I recovered from
the "album cover" that accompanied it.
I have re-formatted it to best conformed

This is a video made apparently before anyone gave
any serious credence to the concept that such
colonies could be createable and sustainable in
the upper reaches of the planetary atmosphere.

Troy J Carpenter, Observatory Director, Science Educator, and Photographer
wants to know, "What is by far the safest planet besides Earth?"

Venus; specifically, a location within her atmosphere roughly 55km (34mi)
above the hellish surface; the pressures, temperatures, radiation levels,
and gravity are all Earth-like at this altitude: 27 °C (80 °F) at 0.5 bars
(50 kPa) with radiation similar to “northern Canada” and 91% Earth gravity.
The skies of Venus are the only place in the entire solar system besides
Earth where a human being could venture outside without a space suit; a
simple face mask would provide breathing air. Additionally, the proximity
of Venus to Earth makes for a much shorter trip than a Mars mission, and
her Earthlike gravity poses no health complications.

In the 1980s, the Soviet Union explored the Venusian atmosphere with balloon
probes. And now NASA has released a proposal for floating bases, illustrated
below. Since the atmosphere is mostly heavy carbon dioxide, plants would
flourish, parachutes would effectively slow entering spacecraft, and ordinary
breathing air could serve as a buoyant fill - gas for the balloons. Also, solar
panels would be almost 50% more effective than on Earth.

Venus is the scariest planet in our Solar System
at the surface. What the hell is wrong with that
beautiful Morning Star? Here's why. Venus is
considered as the most terrifying planet in the
entire solar system. The hottest planet in the
solar system is Venus. (That's why it is named
after goddess of love and beauty :) Even though
Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, Venus
has the highest surface temperature from all
planets in the solar system.

Temperature of Venus : 735 K (462 °C; 863 °F)

The reason is thick atmosphere. It retains all
heat inside and heat the surface. This temperature
alone can roast your body within seconds. Atmospheric
pressure of Venus is very high. It is about 92 times
that of Earth which is equal to 900 meters underwater
on Earth. That pressure can crush your body in a
fraction of second. And the next important thing
about the atmosphere is, it consist of 96% Carbon-dioxide,
which is highly toxic if inhaled. For those reasons,
Venus is considered as the evil sister of Earth.

It is known that the surface of Venus
is a hell-scape, but there's a place
on the planet that's downright hospitable:
the upper cloud tops.

According to a new study, at a region of 40
- 60 km above the surface of Venus, there
could be a habitable region where bacteria
are kept aloft, living in the liquid
environment inside sulfuric acid droplets.
These droplets rise and fall within the
atmosphere, and the bacteria would need to
be able to survive temperature extremes,
but it should be within their capabilities.
