The exoplanet Gliese-436b was discovered in 2004. Although, not very noticeable
from this picture, but it is on fire. The surface temperature is a staggering
439 degrees Celsius (822 degrees Fahrenheit). To give a perspective, the boiling
temperature of water is 100 degrees Celsius. Despite these realities scientists
have valid proof that ice exists on that planet. You might be thinking to yourself,
“how is this even remotely possible?” The planet has such an immense gravitational
pull that it keeps the ice intact. The ice is much denser than that of our planet,
therefore it is hypothesized that it is a special type called Ice VII. The
gravitational pull comes from the core of the planet and it is known as one
of the smallest exoplanets.
