Fears that a Superman will be created by DNA manipulation

Article below polls brainwashed Americans about modifying human stock into becoming greater than they are now through gene editing.

An excerpt:
"So are we on the brink of a brave new world of genetically enhanced humanity? Perhaps. And there’s an interesting wrinkle: It’s reasonable to believe that any seismic shift toward genetic enhancement will not be centered in Western countries like the U.S. or the U.K., where many modern technologies are pioneered. Instead, genetic enhancement is more likely to emerge out of China."
It appears to me this article was written in opposition to the idea (hence the technology is likely to come out of China) and presents the concept as being a part of a "dystopia."
Now if I had the knowledge to help our own people improve themselves through scientific methods judiciously and competently applied, I would not hesitate to help our own kind out. Any thoughts?
