bitcoin alternatives

Bitcoin has gotten a lot of media coverage but i have discovered it has a lot of flaws, i am certain it will fail eventually due to technical reasons. Bitcoin is not anonymious either, every transaction is saved forever in the blockchain. If bitcoin was a true alternative to the current monetary system it wouldn't get much media coverage.

There exist many alternative cryptocurrencies that is technically superior http://coinmarketcap.com/ almost all of them will fail but if you manage to pick the winning one you will get more than 1000 times your money.

When i analyze altcoins i look for the following
-not pure Proof of stake, there should never be more coins generaged due to interest than Proof of Work mining http://cointelegraph.com/news/the-inevi ... -is-needed
-strong anonymity, this will make the coin suitable for illegal activity.
-no exponential decrease in block reward(transaction fees will not be enough to keep the the betwork safe). The block reward formula reward=2000/(1+N²10^-12) where N=blocknumber also results in the amount of coins being limited. Monero and quark have a small maintainance block reward which results in the coin being unlimited in supply.
-fast confirmation time(bitcoin is to slow which makes it unuseful for q lot of applications).
-most coins mined with ordinary computer hardware, if asic come when it is mostly mined it is OK.
-strong comminity

Currently i am considering an investment in monero http://moneroinfo.org/ i will do sime nore reading first. I personally guess bitcoin will drop in prize soon which should also affect most altcoins. The downside with monero is that it's price is to 99.9% speculation, it is technically very interesting(maybe the best) but that is not enough. The market cap is currently $ 16,626,921

When it comes to the community Dogecoin is probably to best(the sponsored nascar) but it is highly inflationary(fixed at 5 billion yearly when the total is 105 billion) and nit that impressive overall(still much better than bitcoin).

it is still possible to get rich
I almost invested in bitcoin then the prize was 2$, i would hade made 500 times the noney if i had done that, it doesn't matter that the coin is technically bad if you sell in time. I do think racialist should do research in altcoins, invest in the nost promesing, do a lot of marketing and than hopefully get 100 times our money. I have also seen technically promesing coins fail, it is mostly about marketing.

The centralisation of bitcoin
The idea of bitcoin was "one CPU one vote" but now it is more like "one giant asic farm one vote". Generally mining for cryptocurrencies is of the form CPU -> GPU -> FPGA -> ASIC as the prize increases, specialised hardware will always be more efficient than general hardware(CPU/GPU). It is however possible to have a currency that is mostly mined by ordanary hardware but with pure "proof of work" mining you will always end up with hardware more and more hardware centralisation.

I was fortunate enough to get involved with Bitcoin before it became mainstream, and made quite a pretty penny with it. However, as you said, there's no anonymity. I was interested in Darkcoin (now known as Dash) a couple years ago, and it's looking more promising lately.

Either way, an anonymous currency without a paper trail is the way to go.

I have never liked dash/darkcoin, here is some motivation for that
-exponential decrease in block reward(it decreases both with difficulty and time).
-it is still mostly unmined, the inflation will continue to be high.
-10% instamine https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=999886.0

I found this article https://www.deepdotweb.com/2014/10/28/a ... ce-part-3/ bitcoindark is interesting. Another interesting alternative is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=745352.0 (both btcd and SDC will become proof of stake coins).

I think the best strategy is to spread the investments if you have a lot of money, most altcoins fails and it can be hard to know which of them that end up making it. I am sure one of the truly anonymious cryptocurrencies will end up having a higher market cap than bitcoin but it is hard to know which, maybe it will not be a single one of the current coins.

The problems with monero is lack of features, there is still no official GUI and the upcoming does not appeal to me. The transaction time is to large for it to replace cash, monero also relies purily on Proof of Work to secure the network which usually results in mining centralisation. Altough CryptoNight closes the performance gap between CPU, GPU, ASIC mining centralisation in the future is still very likely. Currently there is no ASIC hardware for monero but it is mostly due to economic reasons(it is not profitable to develop).

digitalnote
Like monero it uses the cryptonote, protocol. It has low market cap(790K $) and offers very interesting features. It will be secured by both Proof of stake and Proof of Work(called proof of activity), offers the ability to send anonymious encrypted messages and has a nice user interface.

The community behing this coin is small but it has a lot of growt potential, i will probably invest 1...10 K$ in this coin and lose money(most altcoins fail).

Both XMR and SDC ended up increasing a lot(you should have listened). XDN(digitalnote) ended up failing miserable after the initial increase, i guess it will simply be impossible to revive the coin now, a shame since the XDN wallet was nice and the transaction fee almost zero.

It is not a good time to invest now but keep an eye on these coins, you will make money if you buy at the right times.

xmr falling slowly

If you buy and keep at the current level you are very likely to get more money back, it can increase 10x from the current level, but you are very likely to get a much better deal if you wait.

The insane xmr increase was igniting with alphabay and oasis beginning to accept the currency, unfortunately oasis appears to be an exit scam and alphabay probably only added xmr to pump the price https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?actio ... =showPosts

The price will most likely go down a lot this month, maybe even -50%. I decided to only keep 67.5 XMR and sell the rest at a slight loss(would turn profit with better timing). I am now trying to figure out when to start investing seriously in XMR, probably below 0.007 BTC. Dont fall for the bulltraps, the price might appear to recover but it will not, it will continue down.

edit: found out that this fund is investing 12.21% in xmr: https://ico.iconomi.net/about-icnx-index they also invested in dash, might be a sensible thing to do(hedging your investments).

edit2: xmr appears to have bottomed at 0.01, now it's going up.

edit2: it did went up, 250$ in profit currently, i will buy more if the price drops below 0.011 again but i guess that will never happen. It now appears that xmr is getting more usage on alphabay https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?actio ... =showPosts
