Murder: March 2016 trial of five black killers of Jakes van Deventer 35, f Warmbaths"who died a year ago in a frenzied knife-attack

09:53 Mar 18 2016 Warmbaths, South Africa

Description
Update: trial of 5 black suspected murderers of Warmbaths hunter/smallholder Jakes van Deventer: frantically stabbed to death with Okapi knives and a butcher knife on 17 March 2015 in front of his small children and life-partner Monique de Souza -
===========
Lucky Ncube, one of the five-murder suspects of Warmbaths resident Jakes van Deventer (35) 'had participated in the murder and robbery because he needed money for a taxi home'...

18 March 2016 - New details have emerged about the gruesome murder of 35-year-old Afrikaner Warmbaths resident Jakes van Deventer on 17 march 2015 at his house in Roodeplaat, Warmbaths smallholdings.

The murdered Afrikaner man's life-partner Monique de Souza, 28, was also injured when she fought successfully against some of the black males who tried to rape her, and broke all the fingers of her hands. There were also four Afrikaner children in the house during the attack by the five black males: the children's ages ranged from four months to 15 years. Also present during the attack
was Lynnette Louw, the injured life-partner's mother.
The four-year-old daughter of farmer Jakes van Deventer had even begged the black knifemen to 'please sir do not hurt my daddy'.. .
Mrs De Souza had broken her fingers - fighting back fiercely against the blacks who had tried to rape her. One of these males had pushed a knife against her throat, she was beaten, kicked and fought back, and she stabbed one of the black killersb ack with a knife. She was operated at the St Vincent Private Hospital in Warmbaths to reset her broken fingers.
-- A member of the neighbourhood watch who had responded to the emergency call said the 'house looked like a slaughterhouse: coated in blood...'

"Die Pos'' reported on the trial-evidence when one of the five black murder-suspects, Lucky Ncube, who admitted that he was an illegal Zimbabwean migrant,
said he was guilty of murdering and robbing Van Deventer.

The other four suspects, Knowledge Matshesa, Themba Ncube, Edmore Munanga and Prince Javas Khuzwayo denied guilt.
The trial was seperated and the latter four men's trial will continue at the Lephalale court from 8 to 26 august 2016.
Lucky Ncube testified that on the night of 17 March 2015, during which Van Deventer was murdered -- when he was stabbed repeatedly with a knife and a screw-driver in his stomach and chest. Ncube said that he decided to go with the other men when they proposed attacking Van Deventer and robbing him 'because (Ncube) did not have money to take the taxi back home'.

Ncube said that all five men had sat outside the Van Deventer house from 22h00 on the night of the attack.
"The dogs barked at first but then fell silent." The men bent open the kitchen-door with a screwdriver.
He testified that Matshesa was armed with a butcher's knife and the others including himself, had all carried Okapi-knives.

He apparently didn't testify about the exact stabbing details, because nothing was mentioned in this report about this part of his testimony. All the males were armed with powerful knives.

Lucky's legal counsel submitted in his mitigation of sentence - that Ncube 'never finished school due to poverty: both his parents had Aids."He fled Zimbabwe 'in search of a better life' crossing the border into south Africa illegally. He 'could get a steady job' and did odd-jobs in the Bospoort region.

"He was sorry for what he had done and was a first-offender'. Through his legal counsel, he 'wanted to apologise to the Van Deventer family for the harm and injury he had done to them. The counsel whose name was not mentioned in this report, submitted that a 'suitable prison sentence would be 20 years'.

Huowever investigating officer Renier Schutte and victim Ms De Souza also testified, and judge Desmond Nair closely questioned Ms de Souza about the injuries she sustained in her hands, and how her life and that of the children had changed after Mr Van Deventer was murdered and the trauma of fighting-off an attempt to rape her. The last words that van Deventer has said to her as he lay dying, was 'look after the children'...

The State wanted Ncube to spend a lifetime in prison. Mr Justice Nair postponed the case for sentencing to the Pietersburg High Court on Thursday, 24 March 2016.

Baviaans mayor beaten with knobkierie during strike action

By TMG Digital on March 18, 2016

Image

The mayor of the Baviaans Municipality was reportedly “knocked on the head with a knobkierie” on Friday morning.

The attack‚ according to the Democratic Alliance (DA)‚ happened in Ewald Loock’s Willowmore office by striking municipal workers.

“This thuggery must be stopped‚” said the party’s constituency leader‚ Dr Malcolm Figg‚ who added that an appeal at “provincial level” will see the Public Order Policing Unit being deployed to Willlowore in the southern Cape.

“The local Willowmore police have failed to act and ensure that the striking workers do not damage municipal property and assault employees in keeping with a court order‚” Figg said.

The municipal workers are striking over pay parity “as a result of the Rietbron-area being added to the Baviaans Municipality”‚ said Figg.

Resolving the issue “needs the intervention of the Sarah Baartman District Municipality and the Department of Cooperative Governance”‚ he said.

This little girl was brutally beaten to death by African savages

Image

DAILYKENN.com -- Randfontein Primary School’s Leon Haupt fought back tears as he said farewell to nine-year-old Kayla Meyer.

The little girl's classmates sobbed and held one another at the school's memorial service.

Meyer was brutally murdered at a farm in Rodora, South Africa last week.

Also killed was the girl's mother, Marietjie Meyer, and her mother's fiancée Kennith McCormack. McCormack's 72-year-old father, Monty, was also murdered.

Police said the victims all sustained blunt force trauma. That is, the little girl and the three adults were beaten to death.

Meanwhile, in America, the far left ingratiates itself in the one-party "democracy" that is destroying South Africa. To see the hate supported by America's far left, google the search term "South Africa farm murders" and click on 'images'.

From news24.com:

Nine-year-old Kayla Meyer was in heaven, her school principal told her sobbing classmates at her memorial service on Thursday.

“You may cry. You may be heartbroken. It is an emotional day for us, but she is in heaven now,” Randfontein Primary School’s Leon Haupt said.

Fighting back his tears as he addressed her Grade 3 classmates and teachers in the school hall, Haupt said they should never forget her beautiful soul.

“She was a beautiful and loving child. Her smile used to brighten everyone’s day. She loved everyone unconditionally,” Haupt said.

As the rain was pouring down, Haupt paused and watched as the children sobbed and held one another. He read Bible scripture in John 11:25.

Balloons were released in a gesture of farewell.

“As we release the balloons and they start to fade away, may we see it as a way of Kayla leaving us. We should never forget that she will always be in our hearts,” Haupt said.

Earlier this week, Kayla’s teacher, Chantel Borissza, said the entire school was shocked and heartbroken at the news of Kayla's death.

“We will always remember her as a kind, loving and zealously spirited child,” Borissza said.

A counsellor at the school used a puppet show to explain the concept of death to Kayla’s classmates following her murder last week.

Monty McCormack, 73, his son Kennith McCormack, 42, Kennith’s fiancée Marietjie Meyer and her daughter Kayla, were killed on a smallholding in Rodora, Randfontein, last week.

The attack was assumed to have happened between Wednesday evening and the early hours of Thursday morning.

Randfontein police spokesperson, Captain Appel Ernst, said the victims all sustained blunt force trauma.

Haupt said they would plant a tree in her memory.

“We have everything ready to plant the tree, but due to bad weather we won’t be able to do it today,” he said.

The 26-year-old African wife of a missing British pensioner is to be charged with murdering him after he was found to have been burned alive. Cops said the charred remains of tycoon William West, 76, were close to the couple’s luxury holiday beach home in Gambia. He vanished on July 3 while on a vacation with wife Kate. She claimed he disappeared after popping into a cigar store on a day trip to neighbouring Senegal. Mrs West was originally from Ghana but lived in Gambia with her Nigerian parents. She married Mr West six years ago — when she was 20 — after they met while he was on holiday in Gambia. Police are holding her in custody, along with a West African man. -

Bloody trail of murder in South Africa

Entire families are butchered by attackers who aren't out to rob, but to kill and terrorize. Despite this gruesome reality, the governing ANC party refuses to admit there is a problem with anti-White racism in South Africa. Most exposed of all are the White farmers, who run a greater risk of being murdered than any other profession in the world. Swedish weekly Nya Tider (New Times) visits the South Africa of today.

Publicerad: 31 March, 2016, 19:21

SvenskaEnglish
The small room smells unmistakably of blood.

Four toasted sandwiches lie on the draining board, spread with butter and marmalade. But Monty McCormack, 73, and his nine year old granddaughter Kayla never got to eat them. Instead, the grandfather’s blood is smeared over the wall by Kayla’s bed, where he was bludgeoned to death with a crowbar. Dark blood stains the girl’s pillow, which depicts a scene from the Disney movie Frozen.

Kayla’s blood has been spilt in the storeroom next door, where her body was found. One of the blood stains is in the shape of a shoeprint on a pile of cement sacks. The girl probably resisted before she was strangled to death by the attackers, the family’s neighbours explain.

Kayla’s mom and dad − Kennith McCormack, 42 and Marietjie Meyer, 46 − were found about a hundred metres away, at the house they had almost finished building. Marietjie was beaten to death with a blunt object − most likely the hammer found next to her body, her neighbour says, as we stand next to the pool of blood she was found in. Kennith was killed with a spade, his body found in the undergrowth a stone’s throw from the house.

In many ways, the murder of the family is sickeningly familiar when compared to the stories we have heard from so many White farmers. Most strikingly, few, if any, valuables are missing, except for the family car which had been set on fire at Greenhills, some kilometres from the site of the murder. There is even some small change still lying on the bed where Monty was killed. It seems the attackers were driven by other motives than money. The ways of killing each victim rather indicates ice-cold hatred.

Image
Kayla Meyer, 9, was murdered in Rodora, Randfontein on the night to March 10, 2016. Her teacher describes her as a soft-hearted girl who ‘always wanted to help the rest of the learners’ and would share her last money with her friends.

Racial motives aren’t acknowleged

The party line of the ruling ANC is that White farmers are exposed to attacks simply because they are generally wealthy; because the attackers want their money and valuables. But Kennith, Marietjie and Kayla were a poor family struggling to build a better future for themselves. Their Black neighbour, Sello Matume, 54, explains to us that he is the owner of the land which the White family was leasing. According to Matume, Kennith seemed somewhat desperate when he came to the neighbourhood of mostly Black smallholders last year to rent about a hectare of land, on which he wanted to build a house for his family.

− I saw that this guy is struggling. Wife lost her job, [and] he doesn’t have work [either], Sello Matume says to New Times.

Was Kennith forced to watch as the attackers killed his fiancée, as is so common in the South African farm murders? Why did the killers tie up little Kayla, only to then kill her? No one knows for sure − and as usual, there seems to be very little chance of the murderers ever being apprehended. The crime scene isn’t even cordoned off when we arrive, and the family’s two puppy dogs − which we can only hope the neighbours will look after − have free access to the room where Monty was beaten to death. An entire family has been brutally murdered in cold blood, and the police barely seems to care.

From both human rights activists and politicians, we learn that South Africa’s police force is thoroughly corrupt and incompetent, largely due to the huge numbers of low-qualified Blacks who have been steamrolled into the police force through racial quotas. Only a small fraction of murders in general, and farm murders in particular, are ever solved. Some of the people we speak to also allege that the police, in certain districts at least, are particularly disinclined to solve cases where the victims are White.

One example is Andry Louw, 53, owner of Andry Louw Motors in Pretoria, who has been burgled six times since December. At the latest break-in, a friend of his was badly injured by two attackers, who used a machete and another knife to cut and stab him before Andry could chase them away by firing several warning shots with his gun. When we speak to Andry a month later, the police have yet to either interview his attacked friend or do a crime scene investigation. Andry, on the other hand, has been questioned for the warning shots he fired, and almost had his gun confiscated despite the fact that it was probably the gun that saved their lives. In the end, he got to keep his gun. Nothing has been done to catch the attackers, however, in spite of Andry, by his own initiative, providing the police with pictures of the attackers’ faces from CCTV cameras.

− I don’t want to say it, but I think I must say it: I think it’s because I’m White, sighs Andry when we ask why the police seem not to care about solving the case.

There are many indications that racial motives are a frequent factor when White people are killed in South Africa, especially in the farm murders. The attackers seem more interested in terrorizing their victims than in robbing them of their valuables. Sometimes no valuables are even touched, other times they only steal mobile phones and guns. In some cases, the perpetrators themselves have stated to their victims that they aren’t out for money but for hurting and killing.

At some of the murders, the attackers also use skills and methods that suggest military training. Several of the South Africans we’ve interviewed tell of their suspicions that parts of the ruling ANC’s armed branch, Umkhonto we sizwe − “Spear of the nation” − could still be secretly active, training killers to drive the Whites off their land. There is no hard evidence of this, however, and despite urgings from farmers, organizations and activists, the government refuses to launch a proper investigation into the motives and methods behind the farm attacks.

The multiple murder of Kennith, Marietjie, Kayla and Monty in Randfontein doesn’t exactly raise a huge ruckus, either. When the New Times team arrives at the murder scene, there has only been a short article in the local newspaper, and we are the first journalists to visit the site itself. Only two days later, after our photographs have gone somewhat viral on Facebook and the human rights organization PRAAG has written about it, the local press wakes up and starts writing more extensively about it.

In the national press, the murder of four people barely gets a mention. In South Africa, this is just another murder case.

Image
Andry Louw, 53, had been burgled six times in three months when New Times interviewed him on March 19, 2016. At the latest break-in, he had to fire several warning shots to chase away two Black attackers who were trying to kill a friend of his with a knife and a panga (African machete). A month later, the police have neither done a crime scene investigation nor interviewed the victim, but they did ask Andry to hand in his gun, which he refused. Andry believes that the police is discriminating against White victims. Photo: Nya Tider/New Times

Just an ordinary, race-motivated multiple murder

− The farmers live in fear, because being a farmer in South Africa is the most dangerous occupation in the world, says Henk van de Graaf, Assistant General Manager and spokesman for the TAU-SA, Transvaal Agricultural Union, an organization representing commercial farmers in South Africa.

− The average murder ratio per 100,000 or the population in the world is 9, I believe. In South Africa, it is 54. But for the farming community it is 138, which is the highest for any occupation in the world, van de Graaf explains.

These numbers are necessarily conservative estimates. The statistics of the SAPS, the South African Police Service, are all but useless − the police force being inefficient, corrupt and in the hands of the ruling party, which has a vested interest in manipulating the numbers to make them look less awful than they really are. On directives from the government, police authorities also refuse to release any data which breaks down criminals and crime victims based on their racial or tribal affinities. Estimates from several organizations, including the monitoring group Genocide Watch, claim that at least 70,000 White South Africans have been killed since 1990. Around one million of the country’s White inhabitants, estimated at roughly 5,5 million when the ANC took power in 1994, have fled for other countries.

The situation for the White farmers is even worse and has been called a genocide by some. Of the approximately 80,000 farmers in the country in 1990, many estimates claim that between 3,000 and 4,000 have been murdered. The TAU-SA, however, prefers to keep their lists of victims restricted to those they can name, and for certain say were counted as farmers and killed in a farm attack. On those lists, as of mid-March 2016, are the names of 1,086 murdered White farmers and 442 of their close relatives, as well as smaller numbers of workers, visitors and Black farmers.

Many feared that Nelson Mandela’s death in 2013 would be the starting point for an ethnic cleansing against Whites by militant Black activists. Fortunately, these fears were never realized, but van de Graaf says the farm attacks did increase.

− The attacks certainly have increased after Mandela died. The trend is quite clear, says van de Graaf.

In 2015, there were 318 farm attacks resulting in 64 deaths, as far as TAU-SA’s meticulously kept records tell. To put these numbers in perspective, since there are only around 35,000 White farmers left in South Africa today, you can imagine living in a smallish town with a population of around 28,000 (in Sweden, for instance, Varberg or Åkersberga) that was being plagued with five brutally violent home intrusions resulting in approximately one death − each week. All of these attacks, furthermore, being directed at innocent families: mothers, fathers, children, the elderly. That is today’s gruesome reality for South Africa’s White farming communities.

The TAU-SA also believes that there is some organized force behind a part of the farm attacks.

− In some of the few cases where there was a successful prosecution, we saw that the trace could be followed back from, for instance, Potgietersrus in the Limpopo province to Soweto which is some 300 kilometres away. The attackers were guys from Soweto or Mamelodi or some of those places. And they attacked with some sort of military precision. So we believe that there is some force behind this. Who it is, we don’t know, because the police don’t want to investigate that. We’ve asked for a special investigation into this, to investigate what is behind the farm attacks. but the police stick to their story, that those farm attacks are just ordinary crime, Henk van de Graaf explains.

Van de Graaf tells us that the attackers in some cases have waited for the farmer family, who are usually devout Christians, to go to church on Sunday. Then they have broken into the house, loading all valuables onto a car. But instead of driving off with the loot, they have waited for the family to return.

− Then they have been tortured for hours with hot irons, women getting raped and so on, and then they have been killed. That is not “ordinary crime”! If you want the TV. you take it and then you leave. Why wait for people to come home only to torture and murder them?

Image
Henk van de Graaf, Assistant General Manager and spokesman for the TAU-SA farmer’s union, says that many farm attacks are politically and/or racially motivated hate crimes against White people, particularly Boers. Like many others, he believes that the attacks are organized, but the governing ANC refuses to investigate the motives and methods behind them. Photo: Nya Tider/New Times

“This is our land, too”

The White minorities of South Africa are today under severe pressure. Aggressive Black activists are using slogans like “Fuck White people” and “Kill all Whites” more and more frequently. Lately, such phrases have even been making inroads at universities, where Black students have been wearing them on t-shirts and spray painting them on walls. Activists have also been tearing down statues which for White students are a celebration of their historical heroes, but which the growing Black socialist party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) say remind Blacks of apartheid and therefore have to go.

Image
Race-baiting against Whites is becoming more and more common in South Africa. Photos found on social media.

Image
This picture was taken at the University of Cape Town in early February, and uploaded on social media. The student was identified as someone “not currently enrolled as a UCT student, although he had been involved in Rhodes Must Fall activities on campus”. Rhodes Must Fall is a leftist movement to “decolonize” institutions in South Africa, most notably supported by the Black socialist party EFF. After the UCT caved in to its demands to remove a statue of Cecil Rhodes on April 9, 2015, supporters have vandalized several statues of White historical figures on campuses across South Africa, on several occasions using the slogan “One settler, one bullet,” and sometimes engaging in violence against White students and the police.

Image
Representatives of the Black socialist party EFF (Economic Freedom Fighters) defended the defacing of statues when interviewed by New Times. Xolani Jack (left) said that Black students don’t want to be reminded of South Africa’s colonial and apartheid past when attending school. “We do not want their statues, they must be taken to a zoo somewhere else,” Mr Jack said emphatically. EFF party leader Julius Malema is known for accusing Whites of having stolen all their land and for singing the song “Kill the farmer, kill the Boer” in public. Photo: Nya Tider/New Times

A sister of a murdered Boer woman who was interviewed by New Times said that the local ANC representatives even blame the frequent power failures and brownouts on the White apartheid rule before 1994, because the generator in the district’s power station was installed during apartheid rule and is now frequently failing.

− Shouldn’t they consider changing the generator instead, 22 years after the ANC took over? Not everything is White people’s fault, you know. Yes, we’ve made mistakes, but we’ve done good things as well. If it wasn’t for us, there’d be no generator to begin with.

Many White South Africans have lost hope and are thinking of leaving the country they once built. But many also display a will to resist. Businessman André van der Berg, 44, who was stabbed and cut with a machete during the aforementioned break-in and has his left hand in plaster during our interview with him − it was nearly severed in the attack − believes that many Whites will be ready to fight for their homeland if they are pushed far enough.

Image
South African Businessman André van der Berg, 44, was so badly injured in the above-mentioned attack that one of his lungs was exposed and his left hand nearly severed. Mr van der Berg says he is a peaceful man who until now never believed in guns. He believes the current discrimination, agitation and violence against Whites may lead to bloody conflict in the foreseeable future. New Times reporters Sanna Hill (pictured) and Dan Malmqvist interviewed Mr van der Berg on March 19, 2016. At publication of this article he has yet to be interviewed by the police about the attack, which took place around 9:30 PM on February 16. Photo: Nya Tider/New Times

− This is our land, too, says Mr van der Berg. We have no other homeland than South Africa. All we want is to live in peace and for everyone to cooperate, but if they drive us towards civil war, they will regret it. White people pay 90 percent of the taxes in this country, so what do you think would happen if we stop paying taxes? We do still have some power here, if we decide to use it.

TWO KILLED IN VRYHEID FARM ATTACK

A brutal attack on the Van Rooyen family farm has left the Vryheid community in shock.

According to the local Neighbourhood Watch, who responded when the call for help came through, 15 attackers armed with AK47’s converged on the Van Rooyen home in the Swart Umfolozi area shortly after 8pm on Tuesday night and opened fire on the family.

It is believed that the attackers had been hiding among some trees on the property. Mr van Rooyen was shot in the chest when he stepped outside to investigate why his dogs had started barking. As many as 50 shots were allegedly fired inside the Van Rooyen home.

Local farmer, Billy Van Rooyen was killed in the savage and senseless farm attack. His father in law, Ronnie Lombard, was critically wounded and succumbed to his injuries the following morning.

Billy’s father, Lood Van Rooyen, was also injured in the attack, but has since been discharged from hospital.

The motive for the attack is assumed to be robbery, but whether or not anything was actually taken has yet to be confirmed.

“Be alert,” advises Adriaan Botha of Vryheid Neighbourhood Watch. “Warn your loved ones who stay on farms to make sure they have adequate security in place and ensure they have open lines of communication with neighbours.”

Morné Potgieter, head of a private security organisation for farmers in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, said 26 farm attacks were reported to him in April alone.

“Billy’s wife contacted us after the incident occurred and told us that Billy had been shot. We set up a roadblock and managed to apprehend six of the men involved in the attack last night,” said Mr Potgieter.

“There doesn’t seem to be any real concern about these farm attacks. It feels like no one cares, not even the police. No one is protecting our farmers.”

Robbers leave with pensioner’s earthly possessions

“I just gave up at that point. I felt this was it; I was going to die today and told the man to just shoot me, as I could not give them the answers to the questions they were asking.”

April 21, 2016

Image

Ken Howell is traumatised after the attack which nearly cost him his life.
Ken Howell is haunted by nightmares after he was robbed at gunpoint at a business in Sutherland Street on Saturday, April 9.

After having his usual morning coffee, the 72-year-old, who resides on the business property, was planning to read a book. What he faced instead left him traumatised and completely changed his outlook on life.

“I just finished drinking my coffee and had a smoke on the veranda as I always do, when I decided to return to my room and read for a bit. This was at about 4.45am. I probably just sat down when two men stormed into my room and immediately tied me up. I felt a gun pointed at my head.”

Mr Howell said the men threatened to kill him if he did not give them money. “I told them I only had R70 and some odd change, but they could have it if it would help them. They took the money from me.

“All of a sudden I felt a blow to the head and when I looked in front of me, I just saw blood all over the table.”
The men demanded firearms, and Mr Howell explained he did not have any, as the business did not keep firearms on the premises. He said the men lifted him off his chair and started searching him.

“They kept telling me I was lying, even though I told them repeatedly we didn’t have any firearms here.”

Mr Howell claimed one of the men then pressed the gun against his head and told him it would be his last day.

“I just gave up at that point. I felt this was it; I was going to die today and told the man to just shoot me, as I could not give them the answers to the questions they were asking.”
The men pulled him off his chair again and threw him onto his bed, shouting at him not to look at them. They took his duvet and threw it over him.

“At that point in my head I knew this was where they were going to kill me. I lay there waiting for the gun to go off, but it didn’t. I heard them walking away and making a commotion somewhere on the premises, so I just waited for a few minutes before moving. They stole everything I owned; my cellphones, my wallet, my ID. They even stole all my clothes and left me with nothing but three pairs of underpants.”

“After a while, I knew they were gone as I wasn’t hearing movement any more, and I then motivated myself to move to my tool box.”

Mr Howell managed to get hold of his side cutter, which he used to free his tied-up feet, but he couldn’t free his arms because his elbows were tied together. Hands tied behind his back, he walked to the police station a few blocks away.

“The officers immediately cut my arms loose and took a statement. Two officials accompanied me back to the office, where a fingerprint specialist met us soon after.”

Project manager of the business, Willem van der Nest said staff were absolutely shocked when they were notified about the incident. Laptops containing confidential business information and documents, cellphones and an Ipad were stolen.

“This whole thing made us very upset. This is not the first time they have broken in here, but it is the first time someone was here and was hurt. We will definitely be upgrading our security systems to prevent this from happening again,” he said.
Lizzy Arumugum from the Newcastle SAPS Department of Communication said no suspects had been arrested yet, but police were investigating the matter.

“We are urging the community to come forward if they have any information relating to this case, which could lead to the arrest of these two men.”
Mr Howell said he was happy to be alive, and even though he was left a nervous wreck, he had already forgiven the two men who meant him harm.

” I am a Christian and I believe it [forgiving] was the correct thing to do,” he concluded.

Their instinctive response to defend themselves was what saved Trudie Lee, 61, and her husband, Doug, 66, when a robber attacked them in their home in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga last week.

At 21:30 on Tuesday, Lee opened the kitchen door to let their dog out. She said they had secured their home with makeshift door locks made from PVC pipes, Lowvelder reported.

The pipes, positioned indoors, keep the door handles from being pushed down from the outside.

As soon as she stepped out of the kitchen, a burglar came around the corner towards her. “His hands were covered with socks,” she remembered.

In her hand, Lee still held the pipe and hit the man with it. Meanwhile, her husband rushed to help her. He managed to overpower the burglar and pinned him town against a small wall about two metres from the door.

“While Doug had the intruder pinned to the ground, I grabbed the closest thing I could find. It was a plant pot,” said Lee said.

Using the pot, she hit the perpetrator on the head. The couple saw the man fiddling in his pocket and assumed he wanted to take out a weapon of some sort. Doug lifted him off the low horizontal wall and pinned him against the kitchen’s vertical wall. The man eventually wriggled himself loose from Doug’s grip and stood still for a moment, staring at the couple in disbelief.

They then told the burglar to go away to which he reportedly obliged.

Police and security personnel then arrived at Lees’ home.

Although nobody was seriously injured, Trudie did suffer from whiplash and bruises incurred during the attack.

No arrest has been made in connection with the incident.

Pretoria News: Ms Taschia Slabbert, 25 and her mother Melissa, 48, were attacked while hiking and photographing in the Groenkloof Nature Reserve in Pretoria on 1 May 2016 at 8am.

Two black knifemen ambushed the Afrikaner women while a third one stood watch. 'They tried to rape and kill us', said the distraught victims after their ordeal, during which they fought back fiercely.

The attack occurred at around 8am while the women were taking wildlife photos for a competition Taschia wanted to enter. About 2km into their hike her mother pulled her to the side and warned that they were being followed by two black men who were running towards them. "Two men came rushing up to them from behind while Taschia Slabbert and her mom We moved to the side hoping they were also hiking and would want to pass us, but the men stopped, pulled out knives and began stabbing the two women, while a third man also appeared and kept a lookout. The women fought back when they tried to take their camera and other personal items. "They had their hands in our panties and bras and tries to pull down our pants. I am sure they wanted to rape us.

After Taschia had kicked one black man hard between the legs - causing him pain, Taschia noticed her mother bleeding profusely from stab wounds she suffered during the fight with her attacker. Taschia was stabbed in the neck but the men ran away after they got the women's belongings."We went to Little Company of Mary Hospital. My mother was stabbed in the head, neck and the right arm while Taschia had wounds in the neck and bruises all over her body."The doctors told us that the spots where the black men had stabbed us were very sensitive - indicating that the attackers were out to kill us.'Taschia was lucky: the knife missed a vital artery. Her mother was stabbed in a right-arm artery, causing severe bleeding.

The thugs fled with her R33,000 camera, a cellphone costing about R8000 and their car keys. "They even took off our shoes before running away. We had to run on those rocks barefoot all the way to safety'. The mother and daughter both received counselling and post-exposure antiretroviral treatment to prevent HIV-infection from the knife."The police officers and the hospital staff told us that assaults and robberies at Groenkloof Nature Reserve were a daily occurrance. People deserve to know that these things are happening here, and that it is not a safe place any more,' Taschia said. She has since posted pictures of their injuries on her Facebook with the message: "Please avoid Groenkloof. My mother and I have been severely attacked and injured there... stole cameras, phones, jewellery, car key, tried to kill us.'The Pretoria News learnt late yesterday that two suspects were arrested. The attack was one of many reported at the popular nature reserve in recent months.
